Monitoring domestic violence suspects out on bond is apparently a controversial issue in the Mississippi House of Representatives. The House spent most of yesterday tackling an unofficial list of non-controversial legislation. Left off that list was a bill sponsored by Rep. Brandon Jones, D-Pascagoula, that would give judges the option of requiring a defendant accused of domestic violence to wear a GPS-equipped tracking device.

Jones announced via Twitter yesterday, that Rep. Sidney Bondurant, R-Grenada, requested that the bill, HB 196 be taken off the unofficial calendar of non-controversial bills. Jones did not immediately return a call for comment.

I'll bet Lacey could tell us exactly how many people (women and children) who have died from "domestic violence" after reporting to the police or even having in hand a restraining order. Reports and orders don't stop men who think they own the women and children and can take them out whenever they want to. However, the GPS tracking is a great idea. Probably pulled because someone asked "who is going to monitor the GPS on "all those men"? Bondurant needs to remember that half or more of the people who put him in office are women. Its time to protect the women and children of this state. I'm tired or reading about calls to the police only to have them leave and the perpetrator (who was watching and waiting for the police to leave) shows up. "Domestic" violence is a nice term for beating, torturing and murdering your family.
