Bill Targets Barbour's Jet Use

At the Neshoba County Fair today, Gov. Haley Barbour called for higher teacher pay based on student performance.

The Mississippi House of Representatives passed a bill Wednesday that would limit the use of state-owned aircraft to official business only. The bill comes after concerns from lawmakers that Gov. Haley Barbour may have misused the state's aircraft, The Associated Press reported today.

Yesterday, House Judiciary A Committee Chairman Ed Blackmon, D-Canton, provided documents to the Legislature, obtained by the Mississippi attorney general's office, that questioned trips Barbour took using the state aircraft. While the documents show that Barbour reimbursed the state $41,090 for his personal use of the aircraft, Blackmon claims that doesn't include pilot costs. The documents also show that Barbour's family used the aircraft when the governor was not present.
