• 2 p.m., Budget Committee Meeting. The committee will meet to revise the fiscal year 2009-2010 budget.

• 3 p.m., Rules Committee Meeting. The committee will meet regarding the city council's travel policy.
• 4 p.m. City Work Session. The city council will meet regarding the city council meeting's agenda for Tuesday.

4 p.m., JPS School Board Special Meeting at Jackson Public Schools (621 South State St.), in the School Board Meeting Room. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the status of the budget relative to recently received materials by the board. Call 601-960-8700.

5 p.m., America Reads-Mississippi Member Recruitment at Jackson State University (1400 John R. Lynch St.), at the Sally M. Barksdale Educational Resource Center. ARM members tutor full-time during the school day, before and after school, over breaks and in the summer. Members support school and community efforts to increase parental and community support and involvement, recruit volunteers and attend monthly training to gain skills necessary to meet service obligations. Members who successfully complete 1,700 hours in one year will receive the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award worth $5,350, which can be used to attend college and/or pay off current qualified student loans. Wednesday, June 30

9 a.m., Mississippi Commission on College Accreditation Meeting at Universities Center (3825 Ridgewood Road), in Conference Room 507 of the Paul B. Johnson Tower Building. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss various accreditation issues and other regular business. Call 601-432-6333.

Thursday, July 1

10 a.m., Aging Services Workshop at Jackson Medical Mall (350 W. Woodrow Wilson Ave.). The workshop hosted by the city of Jackson will be held in the Community Meeting Room. Call 601-982-8467.

6 p.m., Precinct 1 COPS Meeting at Jackson Police Department, Precinct 1 (810 Cooper Road). These monthly meetings are forums designed to help resolve community issues or problems, from crime to potholes. Call 601-960-0001.

Saturday, July 3

8 a.m., Jackson Audubon Society Monthly Bird Walk at LeFleur's Bluff State Park, Mayes Lake (115 Lakeland Terrace). An experienced Audubon Society member will lead the walk. Bring binoculars, water, insect repellent and a snack. Call ahead if you would like to borrow a pair of binoculars. An adult must accompany children under 15. FORMCities Call for Design Proposals, at Jackson Community Design Center (509 E. Capitol St.). Mississippi State University's Jackson Community Design Center hosts a design competition and symposium focused on the inherent challenges and immense potential for socioeconomic and environmental reconciliation by addressing barriers created by an urban divide. FORMCities calls for design proposals to address the negative impacts of urban forms and transportation thoroughfares that have created visual, physical and psychological barriers along the lines of race, income and class. Student and professional teams may enter, and the deadline is August 15. Prizes will awarded in November. $60 professional teams, $35 student teams; e-mail [e-mail missing].

Center for Cultural Interchange Call for Hosting Families. CCI needs to place 1,000 foreign exchange students from more than 40 countries around the world for the 2010-2011 school year. All of the students to be placed are 15-18 years old and are proficient in English. The application deadline is Aug. 31. Call 800-634-4771.

Cancer Rehab Classes at Baptist Medical Center (1225 N. State St.), in the Activity Room of the Hederman Cancer Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The class helps cancer patients enhance cardiovascular strength and endurance and immune system and bone density. Farmers Market at Jackson Roadmap to Health Equity Project's Farmers Market (2548 Livingston Road). Buy from a wide selection of fresh produce provided by participating local farmers. Market hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Tuesday and Fridays, and 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on Saturdays. Free admission; call 601-951-9273.
