Start your weekend off by attending Cross-Pollinate Vol. 2 tonight. Speaker Larisa Mann who is a scholar, journalist and deejay in San Francisco, will be discussing her research on the interplay between creativity and copyright law with a lecture that will include multimedia and draw on her fieldwork in Jamaica. The free event starts tonight at 5:30 p.m. at the Jackson Community Design Center (509 E. Capitol St.). Cross-Pollinate will continue Saturday with a party at the North Midtown Arts Center (121 Millsaps Ave.) featuring music from DJ Ripley (Larisa Mann), Hot & Lonely, Mr. Nick, and DJ Scrap Dirty. If you're looking for music Friday night, head to Sneaky Beans and check out the alt-rock sound of Red Hill City 7 to 11 p.m.; $5 admission. For some great late-night music, stop in at F.Jones Corner for Sherman Lee Dillon's Mississippi Sound from 11:30 to 4:00 a.m.; $10 cover, or Underground 119 for Papa Grows Funk from 9 to 1 a.m; $10 cover. For family fun, Saturday and Sunday, head to the The Southern Fried Comic-Con this weekend at the Cabot Lodge Millsaps (2375 N. State St.). The Southern Fried Comic-Con will feature multiple voice actors, including Larry Kenney, who voiced the '80s cartoon hero Lion-O of "Thundercats." The event features toy, comic, art and collectable vendors, and work from local and regional artists in the Artist Alley. Purchase advance tickets at Heroes and Dreams in Flowood, or 3 Alarm Comics in Biloxi. Children under 5 get in free with the purchase of an adult ticket. $12, $15 weekend pass; $9, $10 daily pass; Children 5-12 $6-$10. Also on Saturday, bid farewell to one of Jackson's favorite Tattoo Parlors and Art Galleries, The Ink Spot Gallery (300 W. South St.). The Ink Spot, voted Best Tattoo/Piercing Parlor in the 2010 JFP's Best of Jackson, is throwing a closing party. There will be refreshments and music by bands including Coffins, Schroeder and Jake La Boyz. The farewell festivities kick off at 2 p.m.

For some rough and tough action Saturday night, head to the Jackson Convention Center (105 E. Pascagoula St.) for the Magnolia Roller Vixen's Tiki Takedown. The Roller Derby showdown will feature Jackson's Magnolia Roller Vixens pitted against Red Stick Roller Derby of Baton Rouge. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door, $5 children 12 and under. Take in some culture Sunday with a trip to the Mississippi Museum of Art to see the ongoing exhibit "Herb and Dorothy: A Glimpse Into Their Extraordinary Collection" open from noon to 5 p.m. or check out the exhibits at the Mississippi Craft Center (950 Rice Road, Ridgeland) from 1 to 5 p.m. Treat the kids to a Sunday afternoon trip to the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science (2148 Riverside Drive) to see the Megalodon: Largest Shark that Ever Lived exhibit 1 to 5 p.m. JFP Events Calendar Afterward grab lunch at a great local restaurant such as Lumpkin's BBQ, Keifer's or Sal & Mookies.
