City to Open Emergency Homeless Shelters

The city's fourth annual Project Homeless Connect Week is Sept. 20- 24.

The City of Jackson is working with the Stewpot Community Opportunity Center to provide emergency shelter for individuals in need tonight. The Opportunity Center will open for emergency shelter once the Gateway Rescue Mission Center and Billy Brumsfield Shelter are full.

City spokesman Chris Mims said this morning that 31 people came to the Opportunity Center last night. He also said the city is looking for a permanent emergency homeless shelter when temperatures drop.
