The Best In Sports In 7 Days

Doctor S sez: ESPN's talking heads spent all day Monday talking about Dustin Johnson grounding his club at the PGA Championship. That sounds vaguely dirty.

Thursday, Aug. 19
NFL exhibition football, New England at Atlanta (7 p.m., Ch. 40): The Patriots and Falcons both have aspirations of making ... uh, why are watching this again?

Friday, Aug. 20
High school football, Jim Hill vs. Lanier (7:30 p.m., Jackson): The Tigers and Bulldogs kick off the season with an old, old, old-school JPS rivalry. Play nice, please. ... Hattiesburg at Madison Central (7:30 p.m., Madison, 105.9 FM): A pair of 6A heavyweights collide out in the suburbs.

Saturday, Aug. 21
NFL exhibition football, Houston at New Orleans (6 p.m., Ch. 35, 620 AM): The Saints and Texans are both expected to make the playoffs this year. While they're practicing before a paid audience, you can practice partying during a Saints game. Who says the preseason is useless?

Sunday, Aug. 22
NFL exhibition football, Minnesota at San Francisco (7 p.m., Ch. 3): I'll go out on a limb and predict that Brett Favre won't be playing for the Vikings against the 49ers. No way Brett is going to show up with so much time left in preseason camp.

Monday, Aug. 23
NFL exhibition football, Arizona at Tennessee (7 p.m., ESPN): Cardinals bust QB Matt Leinart faces Titans semi-bust QB Vince Young in a meaningless game. But these teams will play many meaningless games this season.

Tuesday, Aug. 24
Southern League baseball, Jacksonville at Mississippi (7 p.m., Pearl, 105.9 FM): Why the heck are these two teams in the same division? They are far apart in geography and the standings.

Wednesday, Aug. 25
Major League baseball, Atlanta at Colorado (6 p.m., SportSouth, 620 AM): The Chipper-less Braves head for the mountains to take on the dangerous Rockies.

The Slate is compiled by Doctor S, who's hard at work on the latest epic annual JFP college football preview.

Tiger Woods was finally divorced yesterday from Elin Woods, and to the dismay of many people, especially women, he's still rich and famous. He can't play golf worth a sh1t these days, but he's till rich and universally known. I'd say give him back his white girls so we can see good golf again on television. I can't stand to see Tiger missing the ball, breaking golf clubs and cussing like a sailor. I guess Cabliasians aren't any different than the rest of us after all.. Go Tiger. Ruff, ruff! You a dog, boy.
