The Best In Sports In 7 Days

Thursday, Sept. 17
Junior college football, Hinds at Pearl River (6:30 p.m., Poplarville): The Eagles face the Wildcats, one of the top juco teams in the nation. This could get ugly.

Friday, Sept. 18
High school football, Forest Hill at Callaway (7:30 p.m., Newell Field, Jackson): The undefeated Patriots, who are one of the top-ranked Class 5A teams in the state, face the Chargers in a JPS rivalry game. … Women's college soccer, Belhaven at Millsaps (8 p.m., Jackson): The Blazers and Majors battle for Riverside supremacy.

Saturday, Sept. 19
College football, Grambling State at Jackson State (3:30 p.m., Veterans Memorial Stadium, Jackson, 95.5 FM): The Louisiana Tigers battle the Jackson Tigers in the W.C. Gorden Classic. W.C. usually beat the G-Men, something JSU only did once in four meetings over the past two seasons. … Mississippi State at Vanderbilt (6 p.m., Nashville, Tenn., FSN South, 105.9 FM): Seriously, the Bulldogs could beat the Commodores, unless their defense forgets to show up again. … Southeastern Louisiana at Ole Miss (6:30 p.m., Oxford, CSS, 97.3 FM): Rebel fans will probably find this mismatch entertaining. The rest of you probably won't. Sunday, Sept. 20

Sunday, September 20
NFL football, New Orleans at Philadelphia (noon, Ch. 40, 620 AM): Foul Philly is a tough place to play, but Eagles QB Donovan McNabb may be hampered by cracked ribs.

Monday, Sept. 21
NFL football, Indianapolis at Miami (7:30 p.m., ESPN): Strong-armed Peyton Manning leads the Colts against noodle-armed Chad Pennington. Fortunately, this is football, not a punt, pass and kick contest.

Tuesday, Sept. 22
Major League baseball, Atlanta at New York Mets (6 p.m., SportSouth, 620 AM): Unlike the Mets, the Braves haven't been reduced to just playing out the string … yet.

Wednesday, Sept. 23
College soccer, Delta State at Belhaven (women, 5 p.m., and men, 7 p.m., Newell Field, Jackson): The Statesmen and Blazers meet in a kickball doubleheader at storied Newell Field.
