Operation Adopt

When you hear adoption, you probably think of kids or kittens. But adoption is now expanding to ideas, and thanks to technological advancements, "adopting" a cause can happen with a click.

Adopt-A-Classroom
While you can adopt a classroom anywhere, adopting a Jackson Public School classroom is a great way to invest in the local community. Adopt-A-Classroom will transfer your money to teachers to buy materials for their class. Visit http://www.adoptaclassroom.com.

Adopt an Animal
The Jackson Zoo has plenty of wild and exotic animals ready and waiting to be adopted. Each animal comes with a certificate of adoption. Visit http://jacksonzoo.org to download an application.

Thousands of dogs and cats are left homeless each year. Jackson's only no-kill shelter, Community Animal Rescue and Adoption (CARA), has a wide selection of animals that need a good home. Visit http://carams.org.

Adopt a Highway
Roadside litter costs Mississippians over $2 million each year. The Adopt-A-Highway program provides all types of organizations the opportunity to get involved in keeping our city and state litter-free. MDOT will provide a sign displaying the name of the group, business or organization adopting a section of the highway. Visit http://Gomdot.com for more information.

Adopt an Angel
Help those in need in your community with the Adopt an Angel program, sponsored by the Salvation Army. families go to the Salvation Army for help with toys, clothing and food.
