OK, as we all anticipate a great Thanksgiving meal or two or three, let's take time to give thanks for what we have. What are *you* grateful for? Please share below.

I'll start. I'm grateful for Todd; our remarkable JFP staff; a house with heat everywhere including in the bedroom and no mold (OK, memories of two years ago slipping in there; sorry); friends and family (including those we'll eat too much with over the next few days, four days out of the office (our first time here), beautiful weather, three crazy boy-cats, cars that run (again, more recent memories flooding in), amazing and responsive readers, smart and hungry writing/journo students, piles of books to read the next few days. Let's see: What else?

I'm also grateful for the city's progress and all the local businesses that both ensure the JFP's success, as well as make this city unique and authentic. Folks, let's support our own Friday and beyond. Walmart and the other big-box places don't need your money; our local businesses and economy do! Oh, and I'm damn grateful for the NEW ORLEANS SAINTS! Who dat, baby.

I'm grateful for having my youngest grandchild all week long. I got him on the premise of having him from Friday to Sunday, and when I went to return him on Sunday I learned his mother was gone for a week instead of 2 days. I cussed about 20 times (he didn't hear it), then took off from work and we hung out. We even went shopping, and on the way to the mall I was joking and telling him I wasn't going to buy him anything. He got mad and said he wasn't buying me sh!t either. Somehow anything got substituted with a cuss word! I hit him on the hand and said don't be cussing. He'll be 4 next month and I can see already he will have a flip mouth like some of his kin folks.

I'm grateful that email and blogging are NOT the only way to communicate with people. Based upon my experience with blogs, including the JFP's, purely written communication is no substitute for face to face encounters. I have found that no matter how hard you may try to be clear, unless you are a professional writer AND you take the time and the space to clearly state your case you run a higher risk of offending even good intentioned people. People who profess to have an open, energetic, inquisitive and logical mind. I am thankful that the JFP, its staff and bloggers are given the opportunity to meet face to face at the many and regularly scheduled informal get togethers sponsored by JFP and/or the JFP advertisers. I admit that health issues have prevented me from attending any of these fests; however I will make an effort to meet the JFP family of supporters, crazies, philosophers and general malcontents in the coming months.

I am thankful for the opportunity to state what I'm thankful for even though i missed this blog when it was posted. I am thankful for living in a city that I am personally passionate about. It makes me angry and sad, yet it makes me proud and joyful; I am thankful for a job. I realize that in this recession, many aren't as fortunate and I happen to have been working in the same place for eight years. I am thankful to have the opportunity to contribute to nurse aides, even in a small capacity to help them meet their life goals. It's great to feel like you're job has a direct affect on someone's life. I am thankful for all that has happened in my life this year - 2009. It has truly been a great year. I married my soul mate and very best friend, Brad, and accomplished a task I was beginning to give up on and that's getting pregnant. Even being so blessed that it's a baby girl. What more could one ask for. I am thankful for shelter (although I am not exactly tickled pink over said shelter, it still exists) and transportation, my step children and my son, my mother - the angel, family and sistagyrls/chicas who practically picked me up and carried me from July - October 12th --when they dropped me to the floor and ran for cover - j/k, my new in-laws who I love dearly, and I can't forget my gorgeous and sweet puppy, Mama Sheeba.
