In recent days there has been a lot of talk about whether Frank Melton should be re-elected as mayor of the city of Jackson Mississippi. Personally I vote "no," not so much because of the homestead requirement, but because he has said in public that he does not like the Democratic Party and that the only reason he was running as a Democrat is because it was the only way he could win.

Would the Republicans allow him to run in their party after making that kind of statement about them? As Democrats, I believe we should have the same sovereign right to disallow those who show such disloyalty to those of us who work tirelessly to maintain our party. Frank Melton is a disgrace to the many loyal women and men who have given their all to move as far as we have, and I believe that it is not only our right, but also our responsibility to keep him and those around him from further disrupting the progress of the good Democrats who want to make our party one that we and the nation can take great pride in. If Frank Melton does not like our party, why didn't he run as an Independent?

Antiquated Race Relations
I just read a CNN article on a high school in Mississippi that has just had its first integrated prom. How has this been legal? I thought that The Supreme Court struck down segregation in the '70s? How is it we have a black president, and we are still keeping social events segregated? I served three years in Pascagoula, and I could not believe the intolerance to race relations. People need to grow up.
