[Stiggers] Reader's Guide to Stiggers

Ken Stiggers

Bright moments, Jackson Free Press readership! This is your resident satirist Ken Stiggers following up on an idea a reader suggested to me Sept. 22, 2005, after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast. A friendly yet heated debate about a controversial column I wrote regarding Brotha Hustle applying for an executive director's job with FEMA sparked an idea to do a ‘Reader's Guide to Stiggers' Columns.' So, here it is.

While some readers say that my satirical columns disparage and stereotype an entire group of people, other readers appreciate how this weekly column—with its unorthodox humor—brings attention to a subject, makes you think and promotes healing. You could say that I write edgy, thought-provoking humor.

My purpose as a satirist is to lighten the burden of living in this sometimes-crazy society. And I achieve my goal by observing, analyzing, and exposing the irony and hypocrisy of human behavior, modern culture, entertainment, politics, religion, science, history, language, philosophy, etc. On the next Reader's Guide to Stiggers, I will share with Jackson Free Press readers my thoughts and ideas behind the term "Ghetto Science Team."

Also, I want to thank Latasha, Ray, Emily, Lori, C. Liegh, Monica and many others for their encouragement and support of my writings. Very special thanks goes to Donna, Todd and the whole JFP staff for publishing my silliness that attempts to make sense out of the craziness within our society.
