Community Animal Rescue and Adoption, Jackson's largest no-kill animal shelter is running dangerously low on funds. The shelter is "filled to the brim with unwanted, abused and stray dogs and cats who deserve a safe, loving place to call home," according to a release. With money running short, however, the shelter will need to close its doors soon unless the community steps forward to help.

"No one wants to see the CARA shelter close," Executive Director Jerri Bennett said in a release, "but the fact of the matter is that it takes $1,000 a day to operate the shelter and properly care for the animals."

"CARA operates solely on individual donations," she added "We receive no federal, state, county or city funding at all. Consequently, every time our funds run low, we are forced to send out a plea to the community for help. We are blessed that the wonderful people in the Jackson area love CARA and always come through for us."

The CARA Board of Directors and staff asks everyone in Jackson to spread the word about the work CARA does, and asks that everyone encourage family and friends to make a donation to the shelter immediately.
