Round 2, Obi Wan Kenobis. Here is another list of music crashing the party waves. Still waiting for some gala to reach Studio 54 proportions and blast every other late-nite shindig out of the water. Before I begin, a short review of the past few weeks:

Hiked up to a karaoke party last weekend and spent the evening wondering when they'll come out with stand-up comedy karaoke. Then I googled this idea. Stand-Up Karaoke
Saw Mr. Sunglasses sing karaoke at Fenian's last Monday night. Heard he lost his bow tie and left the venue the moment the music died.
Thacker Mountain Radio recorded a show at the Neshoba County Fair. Those Bibsters will invade your quaint, kitschy music venue in a heatbeat.

Summer Jams: Oxford Edition

Dead Gaze, Dead Gaze
If you miss swirling guitars and fuzzy never-fi spazz-rock drones from yesteryears, hop onto this bandwagon. If you were ever Guided By Voices and miss the experiences, Dead Gaze is someone to trust now that the Dayton-based Capt. has retired from drinking onstage while random musicians play his songs. Listening to these jams, I imagine myself up to no good cruising in a street-legal golf cart on my way to the rock show, hoping your friend's cousin from North Carolina shows up with her fellow field hockey teammates and a crate of Louis Bouillot.

Junk Culture, Junk Culture
Pass the mic and beatbox with this bomb sampling of samples. Throw in some Stones Throw and vicious chops and you got yourself Junk Culture. In a nutshell, this is what a party should be. Beginnings of songs are disenfranchised from their endings, but it doesn't really matter when you are anticipating the next round of sliced-up cut-ups. Don't even get me started on the creativity from this duo. They got videos, too. Celery Studios Their MySpace page says they'll be hitting the stage with Girl Talk soon. Basically, this ensures you'll have dates for the next seven lifetimes.

Quick note about Junk Culture: I booked a gig for them when they were jammin' under another moniker, Drone Loop. The Gravity coffee place in Clinton,MS welcomed Drone Loop and three other bands. The three other bands had one thing in common; they played metal and only metal. As you can possibly imagine, Drone Loop was a little outta place. Back then, the band sounded like Apples in Stereo mixed with Air. Either way, the only song that took flight was a Zeppelin cover. Sorry, guys.
