FEDERAL COURTHOUSE—Long deliberations are marking the federal civil-rights conspiracy trial of Mayor Frank Melton and ex-bodyguard Michael Recio in downtown Jackson. The government charged the men with three counts each for the destruction of a duplex at 1305 Ridgeway St. on Aug. 26, 2006, a story first reported by Adam Lynch of the Jackson Free Press. After initially sending word out that they were at an impasse earlier Thursday, the jury seemed to indicate that they had moved to the conspiracy charge, prompting some legal experts, such as Matt Steffey of Mississippi College, to say that the pendulum could have swung against the defense. Typically, a jury considers whether conspiracy existed after deciding to convict on another count, he said outside the courthouse.

The jury got the case about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and has gone home for the night two times during the deliberations.

I looked at the next to the last photo of Atty Reeves talking to the press through a sea of mics, and I noticed that WAPT had two of them. They're not going to miss a thing, aren't they? LOL

Just saw Melton on TV. He said he asked his wife to stay in Texas since she supposedly have patients to see. WAPT is doing a live shot and some Melton supporters have been given out "Free Frank" t-shirts.
