"These kids are sharp as tacks," says David Keary, artistic director of Ballet Mississippi, who also choreographs a full-length production of "The Nutcracker" at Thalia Mara each year. Keary's career includes stage and television work.

The 12 ballet students will play the role of the munchkins, the tiny people who greet Dorothy when she arrives in the Land of Oz.

W. Kessler Ltd is bringing this traveling Broadway show to Jackson. "We've been bringing shows to Jackson for 27 years," says company owner Averyell Kessler.

"My husband and I do this together." The company has brought professional shows from Broadway, Australia and Great Britain to Thalia Maria. "Everyone can't take their children to New York," Kessler says.

The Wizard of Oz is sure to mesmerize diverse audiences of all ages. "It's a wonderful opportunity for the young people to be involved in professional theatre," Kessler says. "Having a young person involved in this type of production gives them a whole new outlook."
