The state Department of Archives and History says it will close the doors of the main Mississippi History Store, Sept. 30, due to low sales. The store, located in the William F. Winter Archives and History Building, 200 North Street at Amite Street in downtown Jackson, has put most of its inventory on sale at half price.

According to its Web site, the Mississippi History Store carries hard-to-find genealogical works and county histories, authentic Choctaw baskets, Walter Anderson prints, and handmade works in wood, clay, and glass, in addition to numerous publications. The store also carries many items related to Jackson author Eudora Welty. Sale items include Anderson prints, Mississippi memorabilia and books, and holiday ornaments and decorations.

Maybe they should advertise in Jackson Free Press! Good to know branch stores will remain.
