College football: Several state teams will conclude spring training with the glorified scrimmage they call the spring game. Teams playing on Saturday include Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Southern Miss, Belhaven and Delta State.

NFL football: John Madden retires. The NFL's greatest announcer just couldn't go on without Brett Favre. Break out the turducken.

College baseball: Mississippi State coach John Cohen will face the team he left behind this weekend. Kentucky is coming to town and there will be a jillion folks at Saturday's contest.

NBA basketball: The NBA playoffs begin on Saturday. The Celtics will be minus Kevin Garnett. And the Lakers' Kobe Bryant is getting ready by cavorting with Muppets.

USL soccer: Are you looking for immortality? The Rochester (N.Y.) will name their stadium after you or your organization for $1,000. Doctor S is ready to accept donations to name it Doctor S Field. When he's present, a sign above the main gate will say, "The Doctor is in."
