Folo has a good post, and several links, pointing to another inadequate response to a hurricane disaster, this time in Texas. And there are reports that Texas Gov. Rick Perry is trying to keep the severity of the problem under wraps. Can this really be true?

Blanco is long gone. Nagin seemed to have learned from his missteps in Katrina's aftermath, unlike Bush, Chertoff, Bush & Co. who are still bungling relief efforts following Ike. Providing water and MREs for first responders, rescue and recovery workers, and relief personnel is a very basic responsibility in which, yet again, the executive branch of the FEDERAL government, headed by Bush, failed miserably. Again I say: just keep voting the way you have and you'll continue to get what you're getting now. Can you say 'abyssmal failure'? Keep on drinking that toxic Kool Aid by making excuses for the administration of the worst president in the history of the United States. Period.

This is what happens when your goal all along as a leader is to strip the government of every effort and capapcity to help the needy or unfortunate, no matter how they got into that position. By destroying Fema as the ready and able organization Bill Clinton built it into, republicans again showed their classic contempt for the general public. They acted as if God was with them and would give them a call or several days or months of warning before he/she was about to unleash his/her wrath. Can we trust the people who tried to destroy and nearly succeeded in destroying this organization to ever revamp and make ready this vital organization for emergencies. Of course not, they rather give the necessary money, resources and manpower to some private group to further fleece the government. I can't understand why we continue to trust and take chances with that which has proven to be no good over and over again.

The Houston Mayor is now complaining about the slow or inadequate response of FEMA. The Bushes and repugnants are even letting Houston, the Bushes adopted hometown, down. It must be the poor folks in need of socialized services. They should ask for help under the guise or auspices of AIG.

President Bush and a crew flew over Galveston yesterday appraising the damage and devastation then offered comfort and praise for the work already being done too slowly and inadequately. Specifically Houston Mayor White complained about the slowness to set up very needed FEMA distribution sites and further stated some people complain of having to drive 40 miles to get in line for supplies although gas to travel is precious and limited. President Bush assured Mayor White that as soon as AIG was situated and back in the black he'd see 'bout them. "One thing at a time," the president screamed.

Mayor White just had a news conference and said," Flying over (Houston and Galveston) ain't about shit. They flew down here with the media for a photo op but they're doing nothing. They talk about sending school buses to carry people away. They should get every damn greyhound and get their asses to (Houston). Nothing is happeneing - the public is being fed a bunch of bull. People are desperate and trying to get food and water. We gave the president unprecedented power after 9/11. Somebody needs to get their asses on a plane and come here to help figure out this thing. Don't tell me people are coming. They're not here. Get off your asses and let's do something...." This shold sounds Nagin-like. Maybe some help is on the way now.

Hopefully things will get better soon. I may have used or attributed Nagin's interview to Mayor White. It was so obvious I didn't bother to make it crystal clear. Today's republicans aren't creative, and they can't execute policies or govern any city or nation well. Their "screw the poor" creed or clarion call renders them paralyzed or inept every time. If only they would redirect their great talents in lying, stealing, deceiving, water-boarding, killing, sexual deviant behavior and pretending to have moral values into something righteous, like helping displayed citizens made desperate and needy by uncontrollable hurricanes; we could finally get somewhere and just maybe decent an non-partisan people would have something decent and glowing to say about them for a change. How can you remain unprepared for hurricanes that aren't the first one you experienced? How can you be unprepared for terrorists attacks when you have spent the better part of your reign making policies known to grow terrorists. If republicans don't soon get better or get thrown from office the next frontier will likely be domestic terrorists made right here in America rounding up republicans and trying to kill them.

I just thought a hungry and foodless man ought to be able to git something to eat and drink before he starved or died from dehydration. I realize a poor man shoudn't expect the speed at which AIG is aided to come his way too. Or the speed at which Bush can fly over your town and appraise the damage. I know our planes, trains and automobiles are for the purpose of fighting terrorism and the Axis of Evil in the War on Error, but I thought, if we truly wanted to and cared enough, we could get desperate people some very needed supplies in 5 or 6 days or sooner. If it ain't enough time for republicans it just isn't. I'm a Democrat. Who am I to say how much time a republican needs to help poor people. I know this is a stupid question, but why can't Air Force I or one of them be used to transport supplies to the needed after a catastrophe and Bush stay in Washington. Which do you think the needy people prefer seeing or receiving - supplies or George Bush. Why is it that he always beat the supplies making it to the people. It seems he gets everywhere fast except back to DC after the terrorist attack of 9/11. Yes, I know he was following protocol in that event.

In other words, I don't expect Barney Smith to get any help as quickly as Smith Burney will by a republican administration, but I hope Barney Smith is important enough to get some help before he dies of starvation or dehydration too, like Roscoe Jenkins did a few years ago in New Awlins. Yes I saw how Roscoe Jenkins was treated in New Awlins but that was a while ago and none of us expected the administration to care about Roscoe and his family since they didn't vote for or approve of the administration. Unlike Roscoe Jenkins nem, Barney Smith voted for Bush and this administration, no matter his near poverty and dubious or tenuous place in society, hoping he would be treated better than Roscoe. Maybe Barney will finally grow up and vote his personal interest for a change.
