Saw this on WJTV this morning: More than 190,000 new voters have registered in Mississippi since the beginning of the year. But Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann says his office is now working to verify all of the names on the roster. But he says they are running into some problems. The Department of Public Safety can't confirm the names of more than 17,000 people who mailed in voter application forms. Also the agency can't verify information on another nealy 17,000 people who registered to vote at health departments as well as circuit clerk and driver's license offices. Under federal law, Hosemann says new voters have to show some type of picture ID or other forms of verification in order for their registration to be considered valid. He says before those voters can exercise their civic duty they, "will be asked to show an ID to prove you are in fact who you said you were when you sent in your mail in registration." If they're names are not on the rolls, Hosemann says new voters can cast affidavits ballots. Those ballots will be counted after the November 4th General Election.
