What's so awful is that it was just yesterday that bigots were arrested for conspiring to kill Obama. Joe-the-Plumber's rhetoric about Israel—this is the kind of rhetoric could make it happen again. As Shepherd Smith said above, "frightening sometimes," indeed. Good for him, and I never thought I'd say that. But this level of hatemongering has a way of erasing divisions.

desperate is right, ladd! that's the only thing they have in these last six days. it's a real indicator when my own grandparents (blindly supporting mccain and "you betcha" palin) now say they are tired of mccain's bitter back biting and the general way he is running his campaign. and they don't agree with obama's stand on many issues; they simply disagree with the way the GOP ticket has mutilated a once semi-respectable campaign. i'm not sure that they won't simply stay home next tuesday.

As we look back on this era of politics, especially the rise of Bush and McCain's campaign, the Republican Party will be condemned for systematically undermining the concept of facts and intentionally blurring the line between journalism and partisan commentary. Joe the Plumber is the natural dead end of the Republican Party's systematic devaluation of true information in society. As they peddled away from non-partisan think tanks and actual news organizations, hurling slanderous insults and dismissive slights along the way, they destroyed the bridges of factual information which exist between the public and their politicians When Obama puts people in the lead you see him moderating an army of volunteers - when McCain tries to do the same, he just puts a mic in someone's hand and puts them out front. The Republican Party is clueless as to how you effectively incorporate citizens into government. They just know that it has to happen. Maybe they'll vote Democrat. I'm sure McCain aids are thankful that they're votes will private.

Anybody got specific information on how to reach Joe. I need some tax advice. If you're going to use Sarah the Sex Shooter why not use Joe the plummer, too. I think the republican should run the two of them the next time asa team. It wouldn't be any less of a specious spectacle.

I'll say one more thing, Sarah looks better in those Nem and Marcus clothes than the Wall Mart ones she's been wearing lately. That Wall Mart looks makes her look too much like some people I know and am afraid of. I see why they dressed up the Palins. Girl, put those expensive clothes back on or go away soon!!!!! What I find most frightening is the McCain campaign's response, first calling Joe's analysis "penetrating and clear," then repeating lies about Obama's unconditional talks with Ahmadinejad and redistributing "the paychecks of hard working Americans." (at around 3:56) Unbelieveable!

Joe the Plumber got to the McCain rally late today. McCain introduced Joe and Joe wasn't available. I suspect Joe is back to hitting the bottle or pipe, and will have a freefall when the 2 minutes of fame is over.

The New York Times praised Shepherd Smith for the way he handled Joe-the-Not-Plumber in an editorial: At a campaign rally this week, Mr. Wurzelbacher was filmed agreeing with another McCain supporter that electing Mr. Obama would be “death to Israel.” For five painful live-on-Fox minutes the next day, Mr. Smith repeatedly asked Mr. Wurzelbacher what evidence he had to back up that charge. Mr. Wurzelbacher refused to answer. He said it was up to Mr. Smith’s viewers to figure out why he, Joe the Plumber, thought Mr. Obama was a menace to Israel. Looking incredulous, Mr. Smith gave up. He read a statement from the McCain campaign praising the plumber’s “penetrating and clear analysis.” Then Mr. Smith said: “I just want to make this 100 percent perfectly clear.
