OK, you don't have to pick. Every trick-o'-the-hour the Republican Party is coming up with to try to turn the election is sleazy at this point. For instance, here's race-baiting in Wisconsin and here's more red-baiting nationally. American to McCain: If you want votes, you're going to have to stop waging bigoted attacks and tell the American people what is so great about you and Sarah Palin, and how you're going to help Main Street. You have not done that, yet, while you're bending over backward to defend George Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy. You're not fooling us.

It's amazing how some people bring this up and say that Obama went to a radical Christian church, and then in the next breath say that Obama is a radical Muslim. Which is it, already? However, what bugs me more than that is having a picture of Obama's children in the ad. Today, at a Palin rally, someone yelled out, "He's a n*gger!" LW, Richard Pryor said the thing about the use of the N-word is if you get your butt whipped you know you said it right. Pryor said this before rappers made the glorious and failed attempt to change the spelling and meaning of the word. Surely, the rallying member meant __gga! We southerners knew we didn't have a monopoly on racism or gross ignorance. And since we haven't been able to get away pretending so long like people up North, out West and out East, we either grew up or learned how to practice racism just right - more subtly or with subtlety. I reason I believe so strongly in Bubba's position here is because when you adopt a mantra or course of action that plays desperately into the racist fears and sentiments of racists or sickos or wingnuts, you're still surprised when they act like racists, sickos, wingnuts and strangenuts. In other words, McCain and Palin are innocent and have no idea such behavior begets said behavior. No republican does. This is why I respect them so much. They're smart and honest to a fault.

Can I just add that I don't see how any highly functioning individual could vote for George Bush twice or even once then fear McCain or Obama. The good news is that the woman apparently was not shouting the n-word at the rally earlier. Read this diary at DailyKos correcting it. The bad news is that she was apparently shouting "redistributor," in response to the red-baiting that McCain-Palin keep pounding. Redistributor=socialism=communism=redistributing-to-those-who-don't-deserve-it, which in this state and many others, has long meant people of color. It's more coded but almost as bad. Still, an unfounded n-word accusation is not good, as the diarist points out. It's not good to respond to race-baiting with race-baiting.

The McCain campaign, and Republican surrogates, are trying to race-bait voters into thinking Obama is a socialist when McCain himself has supporting very similar tax relief to that of Obama. That's the irony: the guy offering the most people tax cuts gets called the "socialist." What lunacy. Read my lips: The only real different in Obama's and McCain's tax-relief plans is that Obama wants most of his to go to the middle class, and McCain wants to shield the wealthy. Somehow, the less-than-intelligent among us–or those who think everyone is stupid–is trying to spin that into "socialism," or some Marxist "redistribution of wealth." Truly, truly stop insulting us. The middle class and small businesses are hurting. If a business does not make (as in "profit") over $250,000 a year, it gets a tax break. Those that make over that will be rewarded with tax relief if they use the profits to create new jobs, which is *exactly* what businesses such as ours do as we make more money.

Funny. Gov. Palin has her own juicy "socialist" quote. And she's the one who actually takes from the very rich (oil companies) and gives it to the less-wealthy (every Alaskan). A few weeks before she was nominated for Vice-President, she told a visiting journalist–Philip Gourevitch, of this magazine–that "we're set up, unlike other states in the union, where it's collectively Alaskans own the resources. So we share in the wealth when the development of these resources occurs." Perhaps there is some meaningful distinction between spreading the wealth and sharing it ("collectively," no less), but finding it would require the analytic skills of Karl the Marxist. The "redistribution" talking point is ridiculous.

It is just uncanny how every time the right wingers come up with a new attack angle their own words and record undermines it. McCain was against continuing the Bush tax cuts until he changed his mind and now says that will amount to socialism a la Karl Marx. It IS insulting to our intelligence. It reminds me of the con men who operate on the El trains in Chicago. They try to take your money by getting you to bet on guessing which card is where when they are actually hiding the card you think you are picking --- actually there is no way you can win because by the time you are trying to find the card you selected they have hidden it with a quick movement you failed to see. The hand is quicker than the eye if you are not sharp enough to figure it out. Maybe a majority of people have finally figured out the con game.

Palin reminds me of one of Prince's girls from Vanity 6 which had out a song called "sex shooter" in the 80s. I can't remember the lyrics and don't know if I ever heard them. The three girls had a way of blocking all your sensibilities except sight. One of the lines says, "I'm a sex shooter, baby; shooting love in your direction, come and play with my affection or something like that." That's Palin for you, in my opinion. Once Prince stopped writing, producing and propping up the girls they went away for good.
