McCain Damage Control on Palin Bankruptcy Gaffe

ABC News is reporting that the campaign is frantically backtracking on her misstatement of the campaign's position on some protections for homeowners under foreclosure—giving them too much:

Sarah Palin got her facts wrong in Thursday's debate with Joe Biden when discussing where John McCain stands on new protections for homeowners facing foreclosures. The Alaska governor incorrectly made it sound like McCain supports giving bankruptcy judges the power to rewrite mortgage payment terms on first homes. He doesn't.

The McCain campaign confirms to ABC News that Palin misstated McCain's position. "No, that is what is called the cramdowns, which is so objectionable that Obama didn't even want it jammed into the stabilization bill," said McCain spokesman Brian Rogers when asked if McCain supports giving bankruptcy judges the power to re-adjust the interest rate and principal to help people stay in their homes.

Palin's mistake came when the debate's moderator asked her if Biden was right in thinking that she and McCain oppose giving bankruptcy judges this new power.

Meantime, with his public face, McCain says he felt sorry for Biden: “You know, I almost felt a little sorry last night for my old friend Joe Biden,” he quipped. “She did a magnificent job and she is the news for the big spending, smooth talking, me first, country second crowd in Washington and Wall Street that we have got a message. We have got a message Sarah Palin and I, and that is change is coming, change is coming to Washington and to Wall Street. And change is coming and they’re not going to like it. They’re not going to like it, my friends.” Funny. Could he detail that "change" for us one more time? The American public is wonky like that—we want to know just how McCain policies are going to be different from Bush's.

If he says *my friends* just one more time! Enough already. Enough.

"...big spending, smooth talking, me first, country second crowd in Washington and Wall Street..." It boggles my mind that McCain talks as if this isn't an accurate description of himself and his cronies. McCain IS "the crowd in Washington;" he's been there for 26 years.

Y'all know what, I figured she was saying lots of things she wasn't sure about or didn't know the answers to. She didn't want to look unsure or unknowing. Palin should be in Hollywood acting instead of on the big stage where real knowlege and actual facts and substance count. She's a beauty Queen. All beauty Queens know you strut your stuff and pretend to not have any flaws or weaknesses while hoping the judges are dumber and more blind than you are. Like Donna said the poor woman in in over her head but can't admit it. She may not even know it. The beauty Queen in her may not allow her to know the truth. I hope she admits it or enough of us figure it out before she does something really hurtful to America. Can yoou see her talking to a foreign diplomat or head of a country about issues of world importance? Can you see her negotiating on something important or life-changing? Too bad we can't create 2 Americas and let the republicans have her and McCain in 1 America while the rest of us go another direction. She'd make a good vice president for Fat Harry and Eagle. I can see them hauling ass to the other America in a couple of months for safety and survival.
