As expected, the House Judiciary Committee has subpoenaed former presidential adviser Karl Rove to testify about his role in the alleged political investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice into Democrats perceived as enemies of the Bush administration. This investigation potentially has direct implications on the prosecutions of Democratic lawyer Paul Minor and Mississippi Supreme Court Justice Oliver Diaz, as previously reported by the Jackson Free Press.

The House Judiciary Committee pressed its investigation of possible political influence in Justice Department prosecutions on Thursday by issuing a subpoena to Karl Rove, the former chief political operative at the Bush White House.

Representative John Conyers Jr. of Michigan, the committee chairman, said the subpoena was necessary because Mr. Rove had explicitly declined an invitation to appear voluntarily. Mr. Conyers and fellow committee Democrats say they want to question Mr. Rove about the dismissals of several federal prosecutors and ask whether he knows anything about the decision to prosecute former Gov. Donald E. Siegelman of Alabama, a Democrat.

Mr. Siegelman, who was convicted on a bribery charge, was released from prison in March pending an appeal after an appeals court ruled that he had raised "substantial questions" about his case.

Great news. However, unless the House is planning to use "waterboarding" or some other torturous techniques, Chucky will never tell the truth. Chucky ain't about to stop being Chucky yet. Neither will Rum-feld or Alberta, the most crooked attorney general of all times. I suggest we call him an "enemy combatant" like Bush and Cheney did the prisoners of war in prisons outside the U.S. instead of prisoner of war, throw away the Geneva Convention and roast or torture his crooked and depraved behind.

I heard theres actually a provision that allows the House Seargent at Arms to go get his bobble head looking a@# and bring him in. I'd pay a dollar to see that. This Siegelman thing looks like it has legs. I always found it odd that the one a-hole who figured out how to rally the religous right more effectively than even Reagan was himself an aetheist.

Days after this story broke nationally, The Ledger (in their Monday holiday paper that few people will read) is reporting that the House investigation is likely to include the cases of Oliver Diaz and Paul Minor. My theory is that the Ledger isn't frothing at the mouth over this story because they frothed at the mouth, being their usual unquestioning selves, when Justice went after these guys so hard in the first place. Had they been the watchdog media Mississippi deserves, maybe it wouldn't have gotten this far, and the GOP/U.S. Chamber might not have been so bold or gotten away with it (as they did with tort reform with the Ledger/Jerry Mitchell's selective-fact stories backing them up.) Oh, and Hampton's typical after-the-fact hand-wringing doesn't count.
