The national news media is not really covering this story, but at the recent Texas GOP convention a vendor sold racist buttons with the quote "If Obama wins, will it still be called the "White House?"

This is also an indication of why minorities don't go to the GOP - after all, the vendor had to pay $1500 to be a vendor, so he obviously expected to sell enough of those racist buttons to cover his expenses!

What do you think?

Its also important to know that the Texas GOP has cut off the vendor and apologized.

I saw a picture of the button a few days ago, and I didn't want to talk about it or deal with it because I was afraid that I would get angrier than I already was. Lately, I've found myself dealing with a lot of the issues related to the campaign that way. It's been almost 1 1/2 years, and we still have five months to go, so I'm trying to take it easy and keep my cool. I've been trying to limit how much political news I read or watch in order to keep my sanity because this campaign has been incredibly nasty. "McCain says I NEVER LOVED AMERICA..." Wrong. The exact quote was "I really didn't love America until I was deprived of her company." That's not saying he never loved America. It's more like saying "I never appreciated having a house and money to pay bills until I was unemployed and homeless" or "I never appreciated how good my marriage really was until we got separated". I read it to mean that he took America's freedoms for granted, like many of us do, until he was deprived of them for years as a P.O.W. This is partially why I dislike Dan Abrams. I know what he was trying to say, that the shots taken at Michelle's words were unwarranted and overblown (I agree, since she never said she didn't love America either) but you can't equate these two statements. I'm more in the mindset of what Kaze said a few weeks ago, that we should rise above the petty attacks on the candidates and their spouses, and concentrate on the issues.

When I can find him quoted as actually using those words, and the full context, I'll concede the point. If you see them, please provide a link. But in the broader sense we actually agree as to how statements can be taken out of context, ala Michelle Obama's comment and your phrasing of McCain's comment. Michelle didn't say anything bad. The dust up over Michelle's comment was a smokescreen to call her (and by extension Barack) unpatriotic and create a smear campaign around her.

Yep. And as I've said elsewhere, I think I understand exactly what Michelle was saying, and to some extent why she would use those words in expressing it. Once she started speaking on the campaign trail her words were open to scrutiny.
