Clara Aucoin is the new sports editor for the Laurel Leader Call. That's notable because she's only the second female sports editor at a Mississippi daily in Doctor S' memory. Kate Magandy held the same job at The Sun Herald in Biloxi in the late 1990s before she became the city editor.

Meanwhile, big changes are afoot at Sporting News (formerly The Sporting News), America's original sportsweekly. SN will launch a digital daily sports newspaper on July 23. On Sept. 1, the venerable weekly will start publishing biweekly. Finally, SN is leaving St. Louis, its home for 122 years, and moving to Charlotte next month.
