Baseball: MSU To Hire Cohen

Mississippi State is expected to announce the hiring of John Cohen as the school's new baseball coach on Saturday, The Clarion-Ledger is reporting. The school has scheduled press conferences on Saturday in Jackson and Starkville. Cohen resigned Friday as coach at Kentucky where he compiled a record of 175-112-1. Cohen was an All-America outfielder at MSU in the late 1980s.

Cohen replaces his former Bulldog coach Ron Polk, who resigned at the end of this season after 29 seasons in Starkville. Polk had endorsed his assistant, Tommy Raffo, for the job. Cohen and Raffo were teammates at MSU.

And ol' #1 is none too happy with the situation, either. He has publicly stated that he will remove his name from the stadium, will implore former players that donate to the program to quit doing so, and will remove the MSU Foundation from his will ("And that’s a lot of money.") The man has lost his mind and is completely shameless in showcasing it for everyone to see. The sooner a clean break is made, the better off MSU will be. He's made a mockery of his career since he came back and is now making a mockery of himself. Historic temper tantrum

A complete lack of class. I'm not an MSU fan, but I respected Polk and what he did for the baseball program. I know he wanted his guy to be coach, but he won't even support one of his former players for the job and if I'm Joe Cohen, I feel like I've been slapped in the face and punched in the stomach by my own former coach.
