I hate the Patriots, but I expect them to score 50 points on the Giants, and for Eli to look worse than his sorry daddy in this contest. I wanted the Colts to beat San Diego believing they're the only team that could have knocked off the Patriots. If the Giants win this game somebody better get a congressional hearing going because something bigger than steroids were involved. Michael Strahan is a graduate of one of the schools I attended but my affinity for him doesn't matter here. I preferred seeing the Packers in the Super Bowl with a real Mississippi hero involved. Mississippi has produced arguably the best quarterback ever in Favre, the best receiver in Jerry Rice, the best lineman/tacle in Jackie Slater, one of the best runner in Walter Payton, et al. We Mississippians have lots to be proud of in sports, music and literature.

Ray, just curious, why do you think Archie Manning is "sorry?" I'm a little simple minded, I suppose, because I'm for all those folks you mention in your comment, including Eli and Archie and any other Mississippian that's become successful on a national level (at least those that get there without bribing judges or using illegal drugs).

I might be mistaken, but I think Archie was selected as MVP one year when he was quarterback for the Saints.... That's saying alot for a guy who was on a losing team.... Maybe if he had the protection that his son's have had he too would have been more sucessful.....

Friend and Truth I watched Archie carefully trying to find something in his play, upbringing, history and character worth my liking or bragging on. To date, I've found little or nothing. I also know many black folks who were at Ole Miss during his playing years and they hated him and Ole Miss mutually. I don't dislike either of his boys, and frankly have a decent opinion of Eli and great opinion of Peyton. I just think Archie was overrated and that overating and/or sensationalism about him later accompanied by excuses for his poor play define his career, for me. When he left the Saints and continued to play elsewhere he was still sorry there too. In my opinion, he was the biggest reason the Saints were sorry when he was there. I too wish the Saints had better players when he was there because he still would have been a sorry and overrated player, but the excuses would have run out. I'm with y'all in the argument or fact that he was a good college player. I will never deny that. He shouldn't even be mentioned in the same vein with his boys as an NFL player. I do understand and accept the fact that he's a Mississippi hero to many, for various reasons. But he's no hero to me. I don't like and won't accept his kind of example of heroism.

Rice went to Valley Payton went to JSU Slater went to JSU so why are MSU and UM such big deals...honestly...i dont have an opinion of eli...i wouldnt want him playing quarterback for any team i root for...archie is a great quaterback for any defense...that dude has one record...he has been sacked more than any other quarterback...he played for the saints and McNair played for the Titans...All archie manning did was play for the saints...he didnt even beat some pitiful MSU teams...why is this guy a hero...probably because he contributed the finances to put peyton and eli into some good camps so they could learn from some real quarterbacks... i hate um...im happy they didnt win an sec game...i hope they get caught cheating and get the death penalty...all they can say is hey...we get beat by sec competition all the time... GO BLUE...back to back swac champs '08 and '09

I hear you Shipp. I even use Walter Peyton as an example when I talk to lawyers at cle classes about overcoming obstacles at trials. Walter peyton wasn't the biggest or fastest or most skilled, but he was/is heroic for "never dying easy." He had heart, tenacity, faith, and courage (with great other attributes) no matter the obstacles or odds. He didn't worry about the power of the enemy, he concentrated instead on what he had to do - get yards at all cost and harm the enemy on every occasion that they hit him. He didn't lay down, cry or run away from a fight. He gave it all he had, all the time, and when all that he had was depleted he exploded into the enemy for one last blow. A great soldier by any measure. He was/is the epitome of the poem, "If." Favre, Slater and Rice have the same kind of drive/power about them. Two of the Mannings have no such prowess.

Skipp, Ole Miss's record against State the years Archie was playing, was 2-1-1. The 2yrs Archie was a starter they were 1-1. Fran Tarkenton has been sacked more than any QB in the NFL being sacked 572 times, Archie(396) is 11th on the list, with Elway(516),Simms(477), Moon(458) and Cunningham(484) making the top ten. Archie was the NFC Player of the Year in 1979 and his 2000+ completions ranks him 17th all-time. He was also the losing QB all time with 100 starts, but the Saints were the worst team in the NFL at the time, and they would have been with or without him. I grew up in the Delta (Cleveland) and I remember my father taking me to see him play when he was a senior at Drew High School and I was about 5yrs old and few games later when he was playing at Ole Miss. I never did get to a pro game to see him play. He was favorite player when I was young. I have talked to him a few times over the years when he would be in the Delta visiting, and he always seem like a good guy to me.

we should we owe them the beating they gave us...for the record archie got hurt and didnt finish the game ole miss won...no way...archie manning was sacked 396 times in 14 seasons...note: tarkenton played four more years compare his times in 14 seasons to everyone else...archie wins...was he good no... he didnt always play for the saints and he sucked then too...and watch your mouth talking bout dsu...were gonna see them again and that little spread option aint gonna work...great second half adjustments by Comegy... i bet you none of them ole miss teams with or without archie didnt wanna see jsu then

okay...you know...im sure you know...look at the rosters...archie played during the late sixties and early 70's from wiki: But despite his considerable talent, the rest of the team was not at his level, and the Rebels only had a record of 15-7 in his last two years... trust me, jsu was in the middle of a state wide dynasty at this time...today, ole miss would beat jsu...but hey, they are supposed to...they cant beat anyone in the SEC... dude prior to integration you didnt want any part of the swac at ol' miss or state...look it up

Ole Miss was 28-14-1 and was 2-2 in 4 bowl games between 67 and 70. I tried to find an archive of JSU football from the same time and there is nothing available online. Every team has ups and downs. Ole Miss should do better with Nutt as the coach and Coach O's recruits. We will have to see if Nutt can recruit in the future.

I never did like Ohio State because of Woody Hayes. Was a great coach but he sure was a hot head. I have never like coaches who sceam and cussed at players. One thing I did find interesting about him was the he did actually teach classes at Ohio State in English and vocabulary to the freshmen players. I wonder how many other coaches have taught classes?

Shpp I liked Ohio State back then too. Archie Griffin was my favorite player for a while. Coach Hayes was some kind of coach. He wanted to play too, which explained why he clotheslined a few opposing players, that eventually got him fired. One of my favoorite comments concerning Hayes occurred when a black player was asked if Hayes discriminated against black players. That black player started laughing and said, "Coach Hayes treated every player the same, just like dogs."
