Post-Surgery, Melton Vows to Help More Kids

Jackson Mayor Frank Melton had little to say at a 10 a.m. press conference Monday. Reporters spent more than 30 minutes setting up cameras in the mayor's ceremonial office, only to hear the mayor offer gratitude to his medical staff and family. Melton presented a model of the new defibrillator now sitting in his chest and declared a new conviction to help the city's youth. "We're losing too many young people," Melton told the press. "…It's very difficult to talk to an 18-year-old one day … and bury him the next. It causes me to lose sleep."

Melton said he would work through others to improve the situation for the city's youth, and commended the work of Jackson's new police chief, Malcolm McMillin.

Melton then decried the nature of politics, describing it as a means to look after your own personal interest than the interests of others.

"It is more about personal agendas … and I find this to be very pathetic and very disgusting," Melton said, without offering any examples of the behavior.

Melton offered very little else to the press beyond reading his short prepared statement. He would not take questions from reporters.

Doctors inserted the defibrillator in Melton's chest after he fainted during a recent inauguration ceremony.

How neglegent can you get? I saw melton on TV walking in the snow and rain without a hat or coat shaking hands with folks at the MLK parade. He he vicariously suicidal?? If it is a fact that he just had a surgical procedure, wouldn't it make sense to protect yourself from snow, wind, rain and cold temperatures?????? Just asking.
