Southern Miss has accepted an invitation to the New Orleans Bowl (Dec. 21, 7 p.m., ESPN2). The Golden Eagles will face the Sun Belt champion, either Troy or Arkansas State.
USM (6-6) suffered through a five-game losing streak and had to close the season with four consecutive victories to become bowl eligible.
