Good Friend

When Jim and Jane Hudson realized that there were no other French Bistros serving Country French cooking in town, they wanted to introduce Jackson residents to the food that they love, and we are happy they did.

Since it first opened in Maywood Mart April 1, 2000, the Hudsons have gone to great lengths to give the family-owned restaurant the authenticity of a French bistro with a touch of Mississippi culture. When customers approach Bon Ami, the lush outdoor patio awaits them. With a myriad of colorful flowers, Jim Hudson proudly proclaims that he does all the gardening for the patio, and says that the customers will see "anything that grows well in Mississippi," while enjoying their meal.

Jane, a Jackson native, and Jim, a Crystal Springs transplant, say they love Jackson. They've channeled that love into ambiance for their customers' dining experience. With the help of local designer Nancy Price, they were able to give Bon Ami a French style. The concrete floors of the restaurant were made to resemble old stone; fresh flowers from local florist Daisy a Day grace each table daily; and a plethora of paintings by Mississippi artist Miriam Weems, depicting places like France and Greece, hang on the walls. The Hudsons say that each painting was a place they have been or would like to go, and they wanted to share those experiences with their customers.

The Hudsons recommend visiting for a berry tea, a caramel brownie or a New Orleans-style brunch with eggs benedict or shrimp and grits. You won't be sorry.
