The body of missing JSU student Latasha Norman has been found. No details are available at this time, however, police did detain her ex-boyfriend for questioning earlier today. And, JPD responded to a report of a body in a house on Brown St. in North Jackson.

For what it's (not) worth, Google News is showing 1,134 news entries on the story about the body of the (white) "kansas coed" whose body was just found. Google News is showing 171 news entries on the story that Natasha's body was just found. Oh, and none of the stories call Natasha a "coed."

The event will include 16 tolls from Jackson State’s historic campus bell – one chime for each day Latasha was missing before she was discovered on Thursday, Nov. 29. Latasha was last seen alive on Nov. 13 leaving class at about 2:20 p.m. Also, the Jackson State Division of Student Life is planning to distribute blue lapel ribbons to honor Latasha’s memory in an effort called, “Tie One on For Latasha.” Anyone interested in volunteering to help make lapel ribbons should report to the Division of Student Life conference room in the Old Industrial Arts Building on campus at 12:30 p.m. today. The public is invited to join all campus observances and events. All classes have been cancelled today and will resume on Monday. I didn't know a Kansas student was missing. I haven't looked at much news lately. I did a google search on Latasha Norman and 16,500 articles were found. But the missing Kansas student had 199K. In my opinion, it proves the theory of the missing white woman syndrome correct.

Bubba, there is plenty wrong with American media when it comes to reporting on missing/murdered women. It is VERY obvious that white females get more coverage than minority females. Just this morning, the Today Show reported on both the Stacy Peterson case and the "secret porn star" student from Kansas whose body was discovered; however, there was no mention of Latasha Norman at all.

Opps mis-spelled assumed...LOL I think the reason the are more articles about Emily Sanders is because she had an adult website. The "pornstar" headline makes for more sensational headline than "student missing". I would rather there be less articles about my missing daughter than 200k about my missing pornstar daughter. It would be bad enough to lose a daughter than to have that splashed all over the world.

You are right that missing white females get more coverage than minority females. It is very wrong, never said it wasn't. I just don't think the amout of web actiles was a white/minority thing it was the porn star headline makes for more hits and readers. But, I could be wrong.

I'm with you on this one, Bubba. Sorry, but I've been watching the news non-stop for the past two weeks for some odd reason. :) Both Latasha and "missing Kansas Co-ed" have been covered the past three days on CNN and given the exact amount of screen time. (In fact, they've covered them the past three days one right after another for about 30 seconds apiece) I believe the "porn star" part is giving the kansas woman a large boost in internet coverage.

Another interesting thing... I KNOW Latasha's name. And, not just because I've been following the story. Both national and local news say her NAME first. The "kansas co-ed with the porn sight", well, I have no idea what her name is. In fact, I know nothing about her except for the fact that she was 18, had a porn site, and several tattoos and piercings (which I thought was an odd mention). Really seems to me they are trying to paint a "fallen woman who deserved it" picture of her.

I see what y'all are saying about the porn aspect of the Kansas story making it more intriguing to people. Lori, I agree with you on the fact that they are almost trying to make it seem like the girl from Kansas had it coming to her. It is good to hear that Latasha is getting equal coverage on CNN. I just thought it would have been nice for the Today Show to have mentioned her this morning as they were talking about the other two cases.

If I were a sassy woman I'd say this: "I"m surprised they mentioned either one of them at all...with one being black and the other one being a whore and all..." We need to stand up for all of the women being abused, mistreated, or killed by men...not fussing about with who got more air time. Just sayin'. By the way, I'd also like to pull this into the thread. A new article about the Peterson man who's "wife is missing" and who's third wife died accidentally (as a side note, does it not seem that a woman marrying a man with the last name of Peterson is just right f%*ked?) stated that in his third marriage there were EIGHTEEN domestic disturbance calls to his house in a two year period. He was charged in NOT ONE of the calls but his wife was charged with battery TWICE. She was aquitted both times. AND, Did anyone else notice Latasha's ex-boyfriend was a criminal justice major? What is it about police and smacking their women around???? Ideas?

I believe that a lot of cops in general have controlling personalities. They pretty much have to be controlling in order to be effective at their jobs, but some of them just do not know how to turn that off when they come home.

I was talking to another therapist the other day that does a lot of family therapy. She echoed that sentiment. There are definitely more than the average number of police men who suffer from abusive issues. She believes its also because of the aggressive nature of their job and their inability to know what to do with all that when they get home.

If I were a sassy woman, I'd say the reason policemen smacked their women around was the same reason they became policemen in the first place -- tiny pee pees. But that isn't nice and isn't even true about a lot of cops, so I won't go there! ;-) I do agree with the control thing though. In this case, Latasha's ex-boyfriend likely realized he could no longer control her because she left him, and he just couldn't have that. Probably the fact that she had found a new man fueled his rage, too. Exactly. This is true in the Peterson case, too. Apparently Stacy asked for a divorce shortly before she "went missing." Did anyone see the interview that Matt Lauer did with Drew Peterson? The man just creeped me out. Of course, marital discord was blamed on all of his wives. Nothing was his fault. According to him, their fights were the result of Stacy's depression after losing her sister or even her menstrual cycle. Very typical of the abuser...to blame the victim for the abuse.

It's a shame that such a young life was taken away in such a senseless manner. I've had some heart-breaking breakups in my life, but I never considered killing the women, much less putting my hands on them. There's too many beautiful women out there to get caught up in that kind of mess. Men who abuse their women often have esteem issues of their own and feel that being in control over someone fulfills something they're missing in their lives. Well in Latasha's honor and all the other women in Mississippi that recently were murdered at the hand of abusive men. Whether a porn star or college student it is not OK to be judge and juror with someone elses life. Latasha was given the death penalty without ever going to trial. Latasha made an attempt to get away just as many other women do, but to no avail. What if he had been arrested the day after she signed the warrant in Pearl, would this have made this punk wake up and smell the coffee? I hope that her family after all this is over can have a sense of peace in remembering her life and all she stood for and not allow this abuser to control the rest of their lives.
