[Sue Doh Nem] Loving the Lie

Judy McBride: "Welcome to 'What's on Your Mind,' a Ghetto Science Television holiday special. Our topic: Pre-traumatic holiday depression of unemployed and financially challenged individuals. Join me, Judy McBride, Ghetto Science Team psychologist, as I delve into the mind of Mr. Philmo Jones, former urban professional and third-shift manager of the Suburban Y'all Mart.

"I realize 2007 has been a traumatic year for you and your struggling middle and working-class associates. Corporations and government entities continue to burden you and common folk with price-gouging tactics, hiring freezes, a struggling economy and a costly war. Philmo, what's on your mind?"

Philmo Jones: "I hear Les McCaan singing lyrics by Eugene McDanels. 'Love the lie and lie the love/Hangin' on, with a push and shove/Possession is the motivation/that is hangin' up the whole darn nation/Looks like we always end up in a rut/Tryin' to make it real—compared to what?'"

Judy McBride: "A song from the '60s re-applied to what's happening today—very interesting. Your answer reveals to me your heightened state of frustration and depression. Am I correct?"

Philmo Jones: "Correct. I got tired of the loving the lie and lying the love. So I quit Y'all Mart. Afterwards, my girlfriend broke up with me. I was devastated when she sang to my face, 'No romance without finance or a job!'"

Judy McBride: "Philmo, it's just another love T.K.O. Just get back up and make it real—compared to what?"
