It is very cool. We usually plan it in two weeks; this year we're planning it in two months with a big chick committee. So it's going to be HOT. Save the date. Most importantly: Plan your outfit.

I would just like to take this opportunity to thank Donna for naming me the head of the chick committee. I know we've argued alot on here but I think its mighty big of her to look past that and show what a big heart she has in appointing me to look after the chicks.

That said, I adore the Chick Ball. Highlight of my year beyond the St. Patrick's Day Parade. Nothing more beautiful than women planning and performing to help other women. The artwork is my favorite. I'll never forget Donna's homage to the Promise Keepers. Before then, I thought I was the ONLY woman in the world using mod podge as therapy. Save the Date. Tell your friends. It's a beautiful night. It benefits the Center for Violence.

I vote for Fish because Fish knows women, he's peerless at making them emote, and within minutes of conversating or being around women, he unifies them like few others - all wishing he was dead.

you guys, stop making jokes about women being violent to men on a thread that is ACTUALLY about women getting free from domestic violence situations, ok? It's in poor taste IMHO. Women in Mississippi suffer from one of the highest rates of domestic violence in the entire country. It's not really that funny.

Right, Laurel. Neither of us meant anything badly. I confess to not even reading the article before commenting. Fish, we should give a donation or do something to make up for our foolishness. Laurel, I hope your concert went well yesterday. I even pondered coming but yard work prevailed. I like musicians since being one was my initial and lingering life goal. We're sorry!

Ray, that's cool. Some things just aren't funny if you are the one in the disempowered position. If I could live in a world without domestic violence, without rape and violence against women I think I would live in a more loving, fabulous, inspired and free world. We are trying in our own way to make this kind of world happen by planning this event. Sorry you missed yesterday, it was a very nice gig. Please plan on trying to make it to the Chick Ball May 17, it's going to be GREAT.

I'm with Laurel. I like to joke and laugh, too, but it gets old to watch men try to change the subject on topics such as this one. Men often don't even know they're doing it; they're just not conditioned to listen to or be comfortable with women leading the conversation. Good for Laurel for calling it out. I'm sorry I missed your show, too, Laurel. I even missed the parade this weekend. Had to go on a reporting trip.

Ok, Laurel, I just put it on my calendar to attend. It's scheduled around the time I'm usually hanging around Tougaloo Colleg for graduation cermonies and festivities. However, since I screwed up earlier I will attend. Kingfish's stab at comedy and my being a sucker for the same, catapulted me into not being able to say no. I will leave or close my eyes when y'all do the hottest guys' contest, whatever that is. I don't want to see any rusty, crusty, ugly dudes doing anything outside of normalcy. Fish, if you were a real man you would come too to show support for ending domestic violence. If you can't attend, send some money. As the Chick Ball grows, maybe Tracy Chapman will come. I love her voice and lyrical styling. And playing too.

Ok, Donna. As I was standing in line with the grands readying for the parade to start. Melton walked right by me in a black suit. I hate I didn't get to shake his hand and lie about how much I supported his efforts to clean up jackson. One of his cardiologists in town is my undergrad classmate. I told her to tell him to get well soon so he could face judge Green. I know she didn't tell him though as she is a wonderful friend and doctor.

As of this weekend, I'm creating my masterpiece collage I've thus far named "Not Yet Named." It's a piece that speaks my thoughts regarding women in pain and how society treats them, our body issues and how they are perpetuated by the media and baby daddy drama. I'm serious. Monkey and I are also seriously considering a submission of our oil piece titled "How Great Thou Art," which was created in the gutters of single motherhood and childhood abandonment issues. We also had the flu and were fevered.

no Ray, I'm not that Kate. She's young and cool, and I'm just a grouchy old lady.

Kate, you're not old. I heard you say before that you were in your forties. Wait until you get into your fifties. I need a doctor to get in the bed and a doctor to get out. But since I don't have one, I run and jump in the bed, and roll out on the floor to get up. This is what you have to look forward to. Another decade and I'll never get off the coach!

get your azz in the gym, hit the weights, and you might not need a crane to get out of bed. ROFLMAO

uh huh. I need to introduce you to Jim Willoughby at the Lakeland Courthouse. Late 70's, retired JPD motorcycle cop. Airborne Ranger in Korea and looks like he could still kick azz. Very aggressive in the gym and it shows. So get off that I'm old kick. Why do you think M. Frascogna and B. Featherston are in great shape?

wow, we are straying way off topic but I had to chime in - last week I played doubles tennis with a crew of 70+ seniors & they gave me a whupping! Thanks again to all who came to see the show - the turnout was AMAZING and very diverse. Just LOVED It.

Ray, I'm old enough that my knees used to creak when I got up in the mornings. But yoga's making me younger by the day. Besides, the Red Room at hal and mal's has some couches you could have sat on. If you weren't afraid of all the chicks.

King, I have a gym in my house and exercise equipment on the deck, I just don't use it any more. I'm not denying nature and gravity its due. I was lean and mean just like you until my forties. At 45 I realized I couldn't ask for more than to be married, happy, aging and growing fat gracefully. Two of my muscle-bounded college buddies still look 10 years younger because of exercise except for that high blood pressure, diabetes and scars from various operations on various limbs they have due to over exertion. I've suffered from none of that. Two weeks ago, the wife and I were walking with the grandkids. My granddaughter who loves to hang with granddaddy said "watch me walk like granddaddy" and procedded to stick out her stomach and walk. It was funny. She's only six and doesn't realize she has lost her college tuition and favorite status. granddaddy is hard and revengeful. I'm on a diet now. In fact, I'm on two diets. One isn't giving me enough to eat. Glad to see the Chick Ball went well. I may send a few nickels later on as a donation.

Bring her to the Chick Ball next year. Sounds like she'd fit right in.
