GOP '08 Debate: The Hair Tonic Brigade

Just in case you had something better to do and missed it, I thought I'd remind y'all that the GOP had its first presidential debate last night at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in California. In it, McCain tried to distance himself from Bush, Giuliani tried to distance himself from abortion and three of the candidates raised their hands when asked who didn't believe in evolution.

To be honest, though, it was the New York Times' photo that really drew me into the story.

Looking it over, I couldn't help but think how promising it is to see the GOP fielding candidates that represent such a cross-section of America. After seeing that image, I feel I can now sit back and relax, content in the knowledge that only two types of ideas -- good ones and great ones -- are certain to follow! :-)

(BTW...anyone know which one is the actor guy? I'm not seeing him.)

That's funny, Todd! They surely MUST represent the best that this country has to offer...among older white men! BTW, the actor (former Sen. Fred Thompson of "Law and Order" fame), was ineligible to participate because he has not officially filed qualifying papers with the FEC.

Thank God for alternatives. I would stop voting before I voted for any of those smiling faces. A vote that way is a sure fire way to lead the country further into chaos (war- what is it good for? absolutely nothing [good]), hopelessness, insolvency (fiscally and morally) and decadence. "Smiling faces (often) tell lies. They don't tell the truth." So said The Undisputed Truth.

I watched the debate, and I have a couple of things to say. First of all, take it home Tancredo! Sure, no one's ever heard of him and he looked like a funeral home director, but every time he spoke, I knew that Tancredo was going to kick some ass. Second, Duncan Hunter (clearly not his real name) looked eerily like William Shatner to me. When he talked about sealing the boarder, I had a sudden vision of him waking up in bed next to a dead prostitute, a la the senator in "Godfather II". Third, what's up with Sam Brownback's hair? Is it that spray-on hair? Fourth, it was clear to me--and I'm not kidding this time--that Mitt Romney won the debate, to the extent that anyone did. He was dynamic and articulate. He looked healthy and young. Contrast this with McCain, who stumbled and bumbled his way through answers. He seemed very un-straight talk express last night. Giuliani looked like he just crawled out of a coffin. His equivocation on issues like abortion and immigration will surely sink his candidacy. (I find it interesting that the candidates resorted to federalism to explain away their pro-choice positions.) I really think Romney came out ahead last night. If he manages to win the primaries (unlikely, I know) he will be a godsend to Democrats. As charming as he was, nothing is going to change the fact that he is a Mormon. It's almost like the Democrats made some sort of deal with the devil. I mean, how is it that the leading social conservative in the Republican primary is a Mormon? I just don't think that evangelicals will turn out for a heretic. They sure as hell won't turn out for Giuliani. They might turn out for McCain, but I can't see them getting enthusiastic. Even if they do, McCain's position on Iraq is like an anchor around his neck, at least when it comes to the general election. So join the refrain: Romney in 2008! Take it home Tancredo! (Honorable mention to that acerbic little man from Texas, Ron Paul. In some ways, he was the only one up there who made any sense.)

I overheard an analyst on Fox over the weekend who was saying that the questions were specifically designed to make the candidates look stupid, which he said was more evidence of bias in the good ole MSM. My friend, men like Tommy Thompson do not need any help to look like ignorami.

Why can't we have a hot looking babe by Royal run for President? Sure was nice seeing Geraldo display her swimsuit pics the other night.
