Happy New Year! Resolution, Lesson Learned?

Happy new year, all. The JFP office is closed today, which may be the first time ever we've been closed on a business day. (We've often been open on holidays!) But the staff deserves a rest before this crazy legislative session kicks off! And don't worry: We put the legislative preview to bed Friday, so the paper is on its regular schedule.

Meantime, please share a resolution or two for next year, or perhaps a lesson learned in 2007. It's a great day for reflection.

I've been meaning to lose weight for ages now. Haven't quite managed anything impressive yet.

I refuse to call it a resolution, but I do plan on treating myself better this year. Everything I've put on the back burner has been stuff that would benefit me. Time out for that mess...

I will not date or marry emotionally stunted or personality disordered men :) I will raise test scores just like NCLB demands of me. Then I will lament the state of our public education. I will drink more wine and eat less crap. I will wear the cute shoes I own. I will try to say fuck, pussy and assmunch less. Oh, and cum belching road whore. I will say that less too.

Lesson learned today: Don't lock yourself out of your house on a holiday. I spent an hour outside the house this afternoon arranging for a locksmith to help me out (he was the fifth one I called). After he unlocked the house, I went to a local establishment and drank a couple of Irish coffees.

My new year resolution is to try to remember to tell Tyrone Lewis to not let you boy have access to the police traing academy and make financial gain unless you want to get demoted. Oh yeah I will try to post with fewer errors, not without any errors, lest I look perfect.

I will seek to set up my computer and midi keyboard to write down all of this music in my head! Seriously, this year! :-)

I also plan to lose weigt since I have a 30th Year College Reunion coming up in May of 2008 at Tougaloo. I'm the point person for making all the arrangements for the celebration of the century. I need to still look like I'm locked, cocked and ready to rock. I can already hear my narcissistic buddies calling me fat, slow and washed up as we play pick-up basketball games. I used to be the most muscle-clad of the whole group, but now I'm the biggest, slowest and most out of shape. Also I need to be able to ride my bike with my 4 grandchildren without the bike sounding or squealing or squeaking as if it's in more pain than me. Anyone knows of any lose weight fast without any effort techniques, please send me and email. One of my cousin suggested crack or crystal meth a while ago as a quick fix, but I'll pass on that.

Well, I met one of my resolutions from last year. It may have taken me all year, but I did it. As of 12/26/07, I am no longer a Madison resident and now a resident of Jackson. I will write about this interesting transition soon (i.e., the difference between hearing fireworks on New Years as opposed to gun shots). I've also left some horrible furniture of my front porch for two weeks hoping SOMEONE would steal it. ITs still there. Damn it. So much for Jackson's crime problem. :) THis year I would like to become more involved in the Jackson community. Mainly because I don't have to drive thirty minutes to make it here. I have a wonderful house, a wonderful man, and I'm trying to think REALLLY hard about what I should shoot for this year...but I'm going to have to choose the generic and say "work out". I definitely need to go back to running. I wil also, like Em, be drinking MORE this year. I definitely drank LESS last year and it wasn't half as much fun. I would also like to write more this year. Hmmmm, maybe the two are related?
