Ike Turner Dead at Age 76

We all know Ike Turner as the infamously abusive ex-husband of Tina Turner. Ike, a Clarksdale native, was a musician and songwriter who worked with the likes of B.B. King and the Rolling Stones.

Who else could sum up Ike's life better than our own Ray Carter? From another thread:

LW, MSBC is reporting that IKe Turner has died. Please start a blog on him as he was a musical icon and a Mississippi native. He was also instrumental in teaching Tina how to sing and shake her groove thing which contributed to her fame and fortune. I wonder if she will pay for the funeral and attend to pay tribute. Somebody needs to watch her as she views the body to make sure she doesn't slap the embalming fluid out of him, even at this late date.

Thanks LW. Ike made a great contribution to music as an arranger and musician. Elvis stole some of his musicianship or style of Rock and Roll and neither Elvis or the recod label properly accredited Ike for the contribution, in my view. But induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame acknowledges it, I think. Ike, like many other Mississippi musicaian, was living proof of the talent born and bred below the Mason Dixon line. Before he died, he was a reformed drug addict and woman abuser. Jail cured him from coaine, and Tina cured him from wife abuse one evening in the back of a limousine as I understand the facts unfolded. I doubt he ever thanked or acknowledged her contribution to his graduation from abusing her, but I read about it and thank her for him. Long live the legend of Ike. I'd like to beleive if he wasn't a drug addict he wouldn't have been so abusive and would have merited more accolades and recompense from his talents.

I wish that Ike's story had been told through the movie industry just as Tina's was told. They made great music together but could not survive the stressors of life that so often lead to acts of aggression. I'm glad that Tina was finally able to free herself. She endured an awful lot of abuse. Both were able to continue in the industry after seperating. Ike's drug abuse problem was a great henderance to his career; however, he was able to regroup and remain drug free for many years. The damage, however, had been done.

This just in! Tina has finally issued a statement, at last. It's not as lucid as I expected though! This is it verbatum as I read it: "Dear Ike, at last I have lived long enough to see you where I always wished you to be, dead that is. May the maggots eat out your rear-end and sang "proud mary" on your eyelids, as I wish I could do. I won't be at your funeral. My cat has a cold. In the unlikely event any part of you makes it to heaven, I pray the women up there put some stilettos up side your head too. After all, what's love got to do with it." Tina Turner.
