Alert the Media: Richard Barrett Digs Seale

The Clarion-Ledger continues to puzzle on their James Ford Seale coverage since they figured out that he was still alive. Yesterday, they ran a big story giving publicity to folks like white-supremacist lawyer (and New Jersey native) Richard Barrett (the Nationalist folks) who are trying to suck some attention off the notoriety of the James Ford Seale case.

Folks, with due respect to Jerry Mitchell, stories like these are a dime a dozen. (I know: I used to do them for the Village Voice). You Google a bit for rantings from white supremacists, and then you fill in with some quotes from hate experts. Then you end up with a story that makes race violence in Mississippi look like it was all the fault of a few racist redneck kooks in the corner. Meantime, our people are none the wiser about what, and who, enabled all this crap to happen, and who covered it up all these years. Where are the REAL people in their stories?

A hat tip to Ben Greenberg for tweaking the Ledger on this useless story on his blog today (and for the kind words about our work here):

If you want to read something related to all of this that is much more interesting than what the Nationalist Movement thinks of James Ford Seale, then check out Donna Ladd's recent tour de force, "Fighting Back in Klan Nation," about the late Reverend Clyde Briggs, who was at the helm of the local African American resistance to white domination and violence in Franklin County in the 1950s and 1960s.
