Thank you, Ms. Donna Ladd for the Jackson Free Press. Thank you and your staff for keeping the citizens of Jackson thoroughly informed. Thank you for pulling the covers off and revealing the truth about what goes on in this city no matter who is exposed. It is hard to get away with doing wrong when somebody keeps shining the light on you, and the JFP keeps the light on without regard for status, race or class. I am so happy to see a newspaper that is available to all people that deals with the truth. I was first attracted to your editorial page that nearly always nailed the issues on the head, and they were issues that most people refuse to speak about. Then I started reading the articles by Brian Johnson and Adam Lynch—now I am really hooked.

Blowing the Whistle Could Blow Your Career

One revelation coming out of "Message-gate" is that the reason some of the pages who had declined Rep. Mark Foley's advances did not come forward and tell their supervisors about Foley is that they were afraid of political retribution. Many of them desired to go into politics and preferred not to have the blemish on their record of being labeled a "whistle-blower."

What Does It Take?

Twenty-one soldiers dead this week, one of the worst weeks on record. Condoleeza Rice exposed as a possible liar—the CIA and Tenet did brief her months before 9/11 that something big was going to happen, but she says she doesn't recall it. The same info was given to John Ashcroft and Donald Rumsfeld. Jack Abramoff, we now find out, visited the White House and specifically Karl Rove's office 82 times, not for a few "low-level staff meetings," as the administration told us. And it appears he knew about the Iraq war a year and a half ahead of time.

You would think all of this might just put a little fear into the Republican Party, but you would be wrong. It takes a sex scandal to do that. Worst of all is the fact that it takes a story like the Mark Foley scandal to capture the complete attention of the news media, and the attention of the American public. Iraq, 9/11 and Abramoff don't seem to excite the interests of those tasked to report the facts. A sex scandal, however, is a five-alarm fire.

The Foley matter may be the tipping point that brings down the Republican domination of our government and finally bring back some measure of accountability to our country. It is sad, sorry and sick that it took the exposure and subsequent cover up of a molester to finally wake up America. But then again sad, sick and sorry have been the key phrases behind George Bush's America for a long time.
