Today is the 36th anniversary of the tragic shootings at Jackson State University, as well as Kent State University, where police killed students protesting. Is anyone here aware though that Dr. Mason is trying to TEAR DOWN Alexander Hall?? The dorm that stood right next to thjis tragic incident and still has the bulletholes from that night?? Looks to me like they're trying to erase any vestiges of these civil rights struggle as they attempt to "beautify" (don't wanna use the term I really mean) the campus. They have already pulled up the famous Plaza fro which Gibbs and Green are named. What's next and where is the outrage???

They had better put something somewhere on that campus to forever commemorate this hurtful event having occured there. Otherwise, the students should protest or walk out. I bet the students at Tougaloo would. We protested everything at Tougaloo including the quality of the food at the cafeteria. We were foolishly getting our trays, walking to the deans's house, and dumping the food in her front yard. I should say some of us were. I couldn't dump the food in her yard. I liked her. I was also wondering what these students were eating when at thier own houses. I found out later many were involved just to be in a protest, not because the food was all that bad. I also cheated in the protest. My house was only 2 miles from the school, and although I would refuse to eat the cafeteria food, when nobody was looking, I would sneak home and eat a good meal then return and protest. Protesting sho' was easy on a full stomach.

I believe that some things are better served by someone that has a vested interest. Dr Mason is not one of these that I speak of. He was not here in 1970 and probably dosen't even care about the significance of preserving the dorm. I WAS here on that tragic day and personally will do everything that I can to make sure that this piece of history is preserved. The forgiveness is evident. The memory needs to remain to remind us that we should not have hatred for one another because it can lead to events like this one. Mason may call it progress, but how can you move forward when you take away the very foundation that you are building from?
