It's almost spring in Oxford, the time of year when a scholarship athlete's fancy turns to ... drinking. Two Ole Miss athletes were arrested for charges including public drunkeness, The Clarion-Ledger reported Tuesday. Offensive lineman Corey Actis was charged with disordely conduct and public drunkeness. Pitcher Nick Hetland was arrested for public drunkeness. What's interesting is that both men were arrested by University police. Imagine how drunk an Ole Miss athlete has to be to get an University police officer to arrest him.

You're correct, except that most of them are deputized, so they can carry firearms and make arrests. The campus cops are usually patient and understanding when it comes to student misbehavior (or at least they were with Doctor S). So these two Rebels must have really showed their asses.

um.. i dont know what campus cops you are talking about but the ole miss ones are meatheads who are looking to get someone/anyone in trouble. these are no glorified security gaurds, they are real and they will prove it to you with ease. they can be scarier than the opd.

When I was an undergrad at MSU, the campus police was then called Security, but had (and still has) police powers as covered in the Mississippi Code. I went back to MSU for graduate school a year and a half later, and what I once knew as security was now referred to as the police. The police officers obviously preferred being referred to as the police rather than security.
