In a note of claim dated June 28, 2006, the Donelson family informed the city of Jackson and Mayor Frank Melton in particular that they were bringing suit for offenses related to Melton's April 9 tirade outside Beverly Jackson's Huron Street home. The suit claims negligence, gross negligence, civil assault, trespass, nuisance, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligent infliction of emotional distress, libel, slander and breach of the covenant of quiet enjoyment.

LOL! I am glad they are doing this. I don't necessarily think they should try to sue for big bucks; but, a good slap on the wrist is in order. I'm not condoning the Donelson's, who may be benefiting from illegal activities - we don't know; however, they are due the basic civil liberties as anyone else when it comes to episodes like this. There is a right way and wrong way to handle thorny situations.

Well one thing is for sure. Melton will go down in history as the man who never read the book "Mayor 101 for Dummies". His theatrics could very well cost the city thousands or even millions of dollars that it dosen't have. People have differing opinions of Donelson, but the fact remains that Melton taunted this man's family. He hid behind a badge, a gun, and a tv camera and taunted this family. He SHOULD be punished just as any other lawbreaker. During his reign of terror as mayor he has fired police officers, and other city employees for offences that probably could have been handled with a reprimand or some days off from their jobs. Instead he chose the ultimate punishment. I only hope that a judge will look at him the same way that he has looked at others.

Oh joy, more time in court for everyone. Never solves anything. Frank should learn that actions speak louder than words, and are much cheaper.
