As you may have seen on the local news a couple of days ago, a Utica woman finds what appears to be a pipe bomb in her mailbox. Her solution? Bring the device to work for a second opinion. Huh???

She brought the item to work in Downtown Jackson and asked her boss if he knew what it was. His response: "I don't know, but you better get it out of here." Ya think? They did not evacuate the building, which is something else I don't get, but anyway...

After a visit from the bomb squad, it was determined that there was no immiment threat. They believe that the device was some type of fireworks, which would make sense since this is the 4th of July Weekend. I could only find a link to this story at WLBT's website, but the incident was reported on all three stations.

I'm no bomb expert, but my advice is this: If you see an unusual device in your mailbox, or anywhere for that matter, get away from it and call the authorities. You know, I think it will take more than the rest of this poor woman's life to live this down. This whole thing sounds like something out of a "Naked Gun" movie.

My brother works in the office building to which she brought the device. Not only did she bring it in to her office, but it had been rolling around on the floorboard of her car for a day and a half.
