The Best In Sports In Seven Days

College basketball: Mississippi State fans get to see their heroes when the men's and women's basketball teams play a doubleheader at Mississippi Coliseum. The women play at 4:30 p.m.; the men follow at 7 p.m. (CSS/105.9 FM).

Friday, Dec. 22
College basketball, Alabama A&M at Ole Miss (7 p.m., Oxford, CSS/97.3 FM): Again, Doctor S has to ask: If the Rebels are going to play a SWAC team, why not one from Mississippi?

Saturday, Dec. 23
College football, Magnolia Gridiron Classic (11 a.m.): The I-A players play the I-AA players at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium. Jackie Sherrill will be there, but he won't be coaching, thank goodness.

Sunday, Dec. 24
Pro football, New Orleans at New York Giants (noon, Ch. 40): The Saints need a win to clinch a first-round bye in the playoffs. Eli and the Giants might have something to say about that.

Monday, Dec. 25
Pro football, Philadelphia at Dallas (4 p.m., Ch. 3): Is there a better way to celebrate the holidays than watching America's Team knock the bleeping Eagles out of the playoffs? And if you're really bored, you can watch the New York Jets beat up on Miami (7:30 p.m., ESPN).

Tuesday, Dec. 26
Movie, "Rocky" (7 p.m., Turner Classic Movies): Yo, Adrian! This classic takes us back to those heady days of 1976 before Sylvester Stallone and his "Rocky" movies turned into punch lines.

Wednesday, Dec. 27
College football, Emerald Bowl, Florida State vs. UCLA (7 p.m., ESPN): If there weren't so many darned bowl games, these two teams would be spending the holidays at home, where they belong.
