I am *delighted* that y'all are trying him out. He's such a sweetheart. I won't be there for the meeting, though. :-( My fingers are crossed. This feels perfect to me! Deuce living with Mr. and Mrs. Lady Havoc, and the young'uns. Sweet.

Yeah, I won't get to be there myself: I'm at work, and won't be leaving til 7 tonight. :( But the remainder of Clan Havoc will be there this afternoon to meet him. IG is picking up cat stuff, checking the kids out of school a few minutes early, and heading down. We waited for a pet til the kids were old enough and responsible enough to have one. I believe Deuce will be a great addition to our family. :D And I plan to keep his name. It fits him!

I'm so glad. His name is perfect, and it rather pays homage to one of our local heroes, eh? We also have a cat named King Eddie, for the record. He will be most happy to see Deuce go, as he is Mama's baby. Todd and I, and the staff, won't be happy, however. Deuce is such a sweet little rascal. (And, yes, it has crossed my mind that the next foster kitty should be named David Watkins, just for consistency. Can't you just hear someone calling out: "Davvvvidddd Watkinnnnsssss. Here, kitty, kitty! Cracking myself up here.) I smiled all last night after getting your e-mail thinking that he would be living with Clan Havoc. There is something so right about that. And I think the second Kids Havoc bounce a ball in front of him, he's theirs forever. I'm sad to see him move on, but I'm thrilled that y'all are the new family. And I love that the kids are checking out a few minutes early. That makes the Deuce Adoption a a real event!

Apparently, it is not to be. From what I understand, Deirdre (our daughter) was okay: our son had a major panic attack when they went to see him. I wanted Rick to let us take him home for the weekend, as Todd offered: he wouldn't even consider it. So we have one child who is not ready for a pet, I'm afraid.

Never mind: Deuce is in our car and on his way home! Rick should get used to him: the problem is, my mother-in-law had the cat from hell. Every time the kids would even walk near him, he would scratch their ankles. It was bad. Deirdre loves him, and I even talked to Deuce on the cell phone. He said, "MrrOOOOOWWW!" which I'll translate as, "Get me OUT of this CAGE!" :D More updates later tonight after I get home... I can't wait to meet him myself!

Yes, I heard about the saga from Todd-the-cat-whisperer (he's also a dog whisperer; he became a cat whisperer after I and my pet habits came into his life; but he's good at it). Well, if Rick can't adjust, just bring him on back to Hotel JFP. I miss him already. :-(

He took to the ride home fine, meowing all the way. Made it in, put his food, water and litterbox out,and let him out. *POOF* That was it. No where to be seen. We left to get LH, went to Wally World, came back, and finally Deuce decided to come out. After roughly six hours of Deuce being home, he finally came out of hiding. He's discovered our boxes make a wonderful place to play, and stairs are nice. Right now he's chasing the ribbon on a stick. Rick's relaxed from his panic state earlier, down to calm. He's even petted him a few times.

Lady Havoc - I want to thank you as an avid lover of animals for taking this beautiful baby home with you! My husband and I have 4 kids and 5 dogs (he's deathly allergic to cats of any kind - we can't even go to the zoo and walk by the tigers, etc.) :o) Of our 5 dogs, 4 are rescue/shelter adoptions and all of the 4 are special needs fur-babies. From asthma, to epilepsy we have it all covered, and we simply need more homes for those considered 'unwanted'. Thank you for saving this babies life and giving him a good home! JFP - THANK YOU for taking on the responsibility of finding a loving home for this baby! I religiously read JFP EVERY day, sometimes more than 1-2 times per day. I love your articles and the fact that you 'hit' home with truth and ask the hard questions! I would, however, like to see you more involved in 'special' stories such as this! We have a horrible epidemic in society with people discarding their family pets like yesterday's trash, and I believe YOU guys could be the one to succeed where others could not, by making the plight of animals more visable in our community/society. HOWEVER - I thank ALL parties involved in ensuring that this precious baby found a 'forever home'!

Katie, you don't have to thank us. We believe strongly that you don't walk past a pet in need, no more than you do a person. Deuce has the distinction of being the 12th cat that Todd and I have "rescued" in Jackson–many of them who pass through the JFP offices until someone takes him/her home. And we have another kitten from that same litter that needs a home, but some of us JFP folks are trying to get him a bit more socialized first. However, if there is anyone out there who would like to take in a slightly wild kitten, even just to foster and help "break" into a love muffin, and then get it adopted, let us know. We need a really strong network of pet foster homes out there, and the JFP will do whatever we can to help with that. We've worked a lot already with Jackson Friends and my friend and pet sitter, Kaarlon Mann, who is a pet angel. Main thing: I urge everyone. You must, must, must get pets spayed or neutered before letting them outside. It is not fair to you, the animals or your neighbors to add to the problem. Be a responsible pet owner! And Lady Havoc, I cried last night when I read IG's post about Deucy the Love Muffin as I had taken to calling him (Todd insists on calling him Deuce the Destroyer, a little yang to my yin influence). I called Todd from my hotel to tell him how much I missed Deuce (and Todd, too, of course). Y'all adopted that fella just in time, I think!

We're still working on the food deal. We got dry, he likes table food. We agree on water. He's enjoying zipping around the house, and learning that tables are human areas. We've declared the couch neutral. He's taken to Lady Havoc and Deirdre, can handle me, and still wonders what's up with Rick. For Rick's part, Rick is warming up to the cat slowly. Rick held the cat when LH put him in his arms for a second, then Deuce jumped. Unlike his Running Back namesake, this Deuce has four left feet. He's a Klutz. So far the whole "graceful" thing is beyond him. He's fallen off the couch after getting too comfy and missed the top of the chair, fallen though caught himself and landed mostly safely. Nothing hurt yet, except his dignity.

He's probably just excited to be living with non-vegetarians. The whole meat-on-the-table thing has surely gotten him into a tizzy. ;-) For the record, we had been feeding him dry food with a bit of water, and then little bits of can food here and there. Nothing special. I bet he and Rick will be fast friends. Sometimes the best friends take the longest. Let us know if you need anything.

Yeah, Deuce has a problem with the dry food we bought: he won't eat much of it. What kind of dry food did y'all feed him? I made the mistake of having a Stouffer's fish entree yesterday for lunch. Ya know, a begging kitty is a sad, sad sight indeed. :( He was indeed lying on the back of the couch: I started skritching him on his tummy, he turned over so I could get a better angle, and FWUMP! Right off the back of the couch. Luckily, he fell on the seat of the couch and not the other direction... He's adorable. :D

We were giving him Kitten Chow with water on it. I suspect that smelling the good meat smells in the household might be making him more finicky toward the dry food. Maybe try a bit of wet (but not much) in the a.m., then dry in the p.m. Also, we didn't leave down a lot, so that he's really hungry when it's time to eat. Makes them appreciate the food slaves more, you know. ;-) Has he started doing his crazy acrobatics, yet? He's got some moves, I tell you.

We've ended up reversing that, actually: we leave dry food down for him in the mornings. He has the whole house to himself during the day, so we leave fresh dry food and water with ice in it before we leave. When we get home, we give him some wet cat food: it's helped with the plate attacks... :D He has a toy stuffed mouse that he plays with all the time. We picked up a lot of cute toys at Dollar Tree for him: his favorite is a stick with a really long piece of fabric on the end. He loves chasing that around. It gets interesting when he starts chasing the wrong mouse... the one on my laptop. He came tearing into the bedroom this morning at full tilt when everybody got up. He zipped past Rick's feet: Rick waved at him and said, "Hi, Deuce." He's getting there. Deirdre wants to carry the poor little boy everywhere she goes... Deuce has perfected the panicked, "Help! She's got me again!!!" look.
