Ledge: Just Fill the Jails with Juveniles!

Anyone think The Clarion-Ledger has any friggin' clue about what causes crime? It's as if they refuse to read the vast piles of research about juvenile crime, instead focusing on needing more jail space. It's true idiocy from the boys on that paper's editorial board, per usual.

Also, it's interesting to note that, under this mayor, the Ledge is willing to acknowledge what is happening nationally on the crime front. It's hard to imagine how ballistic that paper would have gone had the last police chief been half as ineffective as this one, not to mention the mayor. And they clearly assume no one is going to notice their inconsistencies. Wrong.

I agree on the More/Better Jail space, and don't farm it out to Uncle Bob's construction company this time! Both Hinds and Jackson are bad about that, it seems. Considering I just quoted the Murder Stat for 2004 over in another thread, I gotta ask them about where they got that one for 2005.

I'm not against more jail space. That's not my point. They make it sound like that's the answer to *juvenile* crime. And reporters have access to all the studies about juvenile recividism. There's just no excuse for their ignorance here.

Melton's house of Crime/Criminals or Jails are the only two solutions given from this administration for management of Jackson's youth. There are no proactive plans - Only reactive problems.
