I didn't know she had a show. I'll see if I can catch it.

I've got a confession to make: I still have it on TiVo, and I am so definitely watching it. But I was literally not able to sit through it and eat dinner at the same time. I've heard Sen. Blackmon speak--she's a charismatic speaker under normal circumstances--but someone had told her to talk slowly for the camera or something, and it was driving me nuts because that wasn't her, you know? Where was Barbara Blackmon, and who was this strange, emotionless doppelganger? Then there was Terri Herring, and I felt like I was listening to the voice of the Pits of Hell--overwhelmingly (and contagiously) unhappy, overwhelmingly (and contagiously) sitting in hateful judgment of the rest of the world. I kept expecting her to spit at the camera. At least Roy McMillan is entertaining; he seems so happy when he's talking about blood and guts and genocide and how everybody's going to hell. Not Ms. Herring, whose schtick seems to be "I'm in extreme pain; ban abortion so I'll feel better." I'm sure Donna's part rocked because Donna rocks, but one out of three ain't good. I'll watch it at some point, making judicious use of the fast forward button when I do. Cheers, TH

Ow. That sounded more brutal than I meant for it to. Apologies. I might have been tired and cranky when I tried to watch it, which could have influenced my perception. ;o) But that seriously didn't sound llike Blackmon, and the sheer self-pitying meanness of Terri Herring was the stuff of nightmares. Cheers, TH

I watched some of the interview also. Barbara presented herself on the show just as she did in the debate I saw against Amy Tuck. If she being told to talk like that, somebody needs to tell her soon to stop doing it. However, I'm wondering whether she has suffered some sort of ailment that has affected her ability to think then talk easily, freely and comfortably. The good Lord gave us all something quite unique and special. Mastering what we have, in my opinion, is better than trying to be like something we're not. I thought Donna did her usual good job.

Good point about the possible health issue. I remember looking at a tape of President Bush debating Ann Wilson in '94, and he was SHARP. Talked very fast, very freely, very articulately, his arguments made sense (even though I didn't agree with most of them), and he basically blew his father out of the water in terms of charisma. It was very easy to see, looking at that debate clip, how he became the 2000 presidential nominee--he was, by far, the most charismatic Republican leader in the country. Then there was the 2000 presidential debate, where he stumbled all over his own words, and 2004, where the fire had almost completely gone out. It's like he has some kind of progressive condition. Or maybe it's sleep debt. Or maybe he had been really badly coached to get rid of his distinctiveness, and with it every last ounce of his natural charisma. Dunno. Whatever happened to Bush between '94 and '00 seems to have happened to Blackmon within the past five years, really starting midway through the lieutenant governor's race. And it's a shame, because when she's on top of her game she's one of the most charismatic politicians in Mississippi, period, hands down. Cheers, TH

That's Ann Richards, of course, not Ann Wilson. Maybe I need to keep an eye on my own sleep debt... Cheers, TH

I have not seen it yet, but I am confident that Donna represented the Pro-Choice side with pride. So Roy and Terri were on, hump...I bet Barbara's folks "couldn't find any other pro-choice activists" to balance the debate. Funny how that always works....

I wasn't clear there--Terri was actually the only one interviewed besides Donna. I was saying I wished they had interviewed Roy McMillan, because he's such a HAPPY weirdo. Those wild eyes, that floppy hat, that charming Ted Kaczynski beard... What's not to love? Cheers, TH
