Bon Air Housing Construction Slated to Begin. Mayor Johnson announced the kickoff of new home construction as part of the Bon Air Housing Project Monday. If you drive down Calhoun Street right off Capitol Street, it is hardly recognizable anymore. Once a street riddled with crime and substandard housing, today Calhoun Street is truly being transformed into a place of pride and of family.
Still in its first phase, the Bon Air Project will result in the development of 38 newly constructed single-family homes for working class families.

Infrastructure upgrades have been made, including a new street and water and sewer lines, and new sidewalks and lighting and the substandard housing has been demolished all along the street.

In phase two of the project several other streets, Longino, Prentiss, Denver, Clairmont, Bradley and Bon Air will be treated in the same way. This project represents a true commitment to the availability of quality housing for our working families, and to reclaim the West Jackson Community.

Jackson Parks and Recreation Department Sponsoring American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Training Course
Jackson's Department of Parks and Recreation's Divisions of Athletics and Aquatics are sponsoring an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Training Course, May 19-26, 2005, at VA/Legion Swimming Pool (4400 South Drive). The courses will begin at 5:00 p.m. each day.

Pre-registration is required, and the cost of the class is $90.00.
Participants must be at least 16-years-old and there are only 20 slots available.

Mr. Lee Burnett, Jr., LGI will instruct the class.

Jackson's Officer of the Year Named Today
The National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, NAIFA-Jackson, sponsored the 2nd Annual Jackson Police Officer of the Year and Distinguished Service Awards Luncheon in Jackson today to honor and award the NAIFA-Jackson Police Officer of the Year. Distinguished Service Awards were also presented.

Listed below are the recipients of the 2004 Officer of the Month Awards from which the Officer of the Year was selected:
