Spring may have been in the air Sunday but for many potential Jackson voters, politics was not.

Just two days before Tuesday's mayoral and City Council elections, several residents spent the afternoon clad in jogging suits, chasing Frisbees or just soaking up the sunshine at area parks.

Many people said they have not decided between three mayoral candidates on the ballot in Tuesday's Democratic primary, and some said they weren't sure whether they would vote.

"I don't like one over the other, really," said Hattie Mae Forman who took a walk at Parham Bridges Park. "If I can't decide, I might not vote."

Forman said neither of the leading Democratic mayoral candidates, incumbent Harvey Johnson or Frank Melton, have allayed her No. 1 concern.

"I just hate to see our taxes keep going up, but I don't know if there's anything anybody can do about that," she said.

Stoney Redmond said he voted for Johnson four years ago, but now hasn't firmed up his pick. "I want to make sure I make the right decision,'' he said Saturday afternoon.
