Dave Johnston - banjo, vocals * Ben Kaufmann - upright bass, vocals

Don't call them Jamgrass, don't call them Bluegrass. Yonder Mountain String Band is the creator of an entirely original and innovative acoustic music that is causing a stir around the world. Only six years as a band, all members share responsibility of writing, singing, and soloing. YMSB constantly experiments with its music marking the distinctive sound with vocal harmonies, crisp picking, and improvisation. The purity YMSB possesses in its approach to acoustic music is akin to the invigorating energy that the Kingston Trio brought to the Folk Music explosion in the 1960's, and parallels the Grateful Dead in the way that they forged paths to change the live music scene forever.
Yonder Mountain String Band seeks to bridge the gap between new and old by introducing its fans
to the legends. They have shared the stage with such legendary players as Sam Bush, Del McCoury,
David Grisman, Bela Fleck, Peter Rowan, Tim O'Brien, John Cowan, John Popper, David
Bromberg, Jack Cassidy, Jorma Kaukonen, Jerry Douglas, Darol Anger, and Dirk Powell, as
well as up and coming legends like Noam Pikelney, Casey Driessen, and Gabe Witcher. And in
return, the legends are introducing Yonder to their crowds having played at such classics venues as
Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Austin City Limits Music Festival, The Grand Old Opry,
Bonnaroo, Merlefest, and KBCO RockFest.
A typical Yonder show may include covers from such bands as The Beatles, Ozzy Osborne, Willie
Nelson, Frank Zappa, and The Talking Heads. The sheer energy Yonder Mountain String Band
brings to the stage keeps their hardcore family of fans and newcomers alike wanting more and more!
Since day one, the band has considered their fans to be the cornerstone of their success which they
endearingly refer to as "Kinfolk".
Currently, the band has three studio albums and two live albums all independently released on the
band's own label, Frog Pad Records. Each of the band's past three releases has earned a spot in the
Billboard Bluegrass Charts Top 10.
