New Orleans' Mermaid Lounge to Close

The pinnacle New Orleans underground and indie nightclub, Mermaid Lounge will be closing the doors for good at 1100 Constance come late December. Be sure to catch your last chance to see some bands in the cozy setting. In December there will be several final shows with local bands that have played there during the past few years.

We're from Boston, MA and we're an eight-piece experimental group
performing music that integrates modern classical composition with the
guitar layers and vocals more common to rock and heavy metal. We use
a vast array of instrumentation including four guitars, upright and
electric
bass, violin, vocals, euphonium, trumpet, drums, and live sound
samples.

"Mexico 1910... We use two guitars, bass, and drums to initiate a
kaleidoscopic slug-fest between rhythm and melody. Knocking you
out with enormous swells of feedback is fun, but wooing you with a
pretty song might be a nobler goal. Things each of us will rant about
if you talk to us after a show: Dave: graffiti / Ashley: the 80's /
Miles:
fair trade / Brian: anime. The New Yorker hyped our show in Brooklyn,
so we played for five people instead of three. That was fun.

The name Questions In Dialect comes from an over analyzed revelation
of the ending of the 1996 Coen Brother's film Fargo. This may seem
quite
strange, but seeing as their musical style is a combination of art rock
and
film score moods, and in a live setting, the songs are often translated
visually
through projected images, the name then becomes rather fitting.
The purpose behind Questions In Dialect is to create music that
encompasses
the feelings and emotions of the human experience, everything from the
trials
of daily living to the hope of a better life beyond this physical
world.
Their only
stated influences are- God, life, love, and the wild west.
www.theendofhistory.net
The instrumental music of The Object at the End of History is
influenced by a
broad variety of styles that range from various strains of indie-rock
and jazz,
to electronica and death metal. The result is an eclectic mixture that
is
difficult
to pin down with standard labels. Each of its members brings a unique
perspective to the group with the whole being very different than the
sum
of its
parts. The songs tend to be dynamic and polyrhythmic, usually going on
extended journeys, often with reoccurring themes that present
themselves in
various forms. Depending on the listener's personal orientation, the music is
often perceived as heavy, mathematical, quiet, surreal, uplifting, pensive or
tense. It is the hope of the band to make an interesting musical
statement that includes all of the above experiences and many more.
